el Cheapo Condensers?

Quick question -- would it be worth my money to get a sub-$50 condenser? I was looking at this one:

service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

My budget's uber-tight, so anything more expensive than around $100 is pretty much out of the question. Right now I use an SM-58 as my workhorse mic, for miking my guitar amp, acoustic guitar, and doing vocals. This mic's frequency response is wider than the 58's; does that make much of a difference or will it be a pretty crappy mic and I'll be better off with the 58?

Holy cow... That's cheap. I would be very weary of that one. I would say the SM58 is most likely better than that mic. I would spend at least $100 on a condenser mic if I were you (Oktava mk319 or something).

Havent use any MCA products as of yet. And at that price, yes I would be a little leary. But the again, if its coming from MF they should be willing to back it up for any warrenty issues. That is a very good price on a tight budget, and yes I would think it would offer a bit better sound then the condensor mics you mention. But the SM58 is s very worthy mic, albeit the response curve is not as wide like you stated.

If you do purchase that mic be sure and let us know how it sounds, as there are many people out there looking to spend their money in a thrifty fashion to get by on a budget.

I've heard good things about some of the Marshall (or MXL) condenser mics, as far as budget mics go. Could be another brand to check out.

MXL 1006's are the $100 mic I've used... only problem was that good cymbals sounded brittle but crappy cymbals (Sabian B8's) sounded better.

They don't seem to be listed on MF but this looks like it's replacement:

DB I just had an idea... whay not make an "add MF item link" script so we could paste in the link shown on the MF website and this script woulld convert it to whatever is needed for your affiliate program.

Really hard to say from the specs that are shown. All of the right words are there 137db SPL, 30 to 20K (wonder what happended to the bottom 10) Gold disk. Problem is none of the specs are qualified. 30 to 20K +/- what?; and at what db levels and what weighting? The close specs on the phantom power bother me a little +/- 4 vdc. It's definately not a hibred RF biased capicator, and seems finkey on bias.

However, for that price if it records speach it is worth the money.

Place your bets! Spin the wheel! I stayed away from Rhode for a long time per the low cost. That was a mistake. They are now a favorite in my arsonal.
