i was thinking about some of my favourite lines from songs today, and wondered what your guys (and girls) favourites were?
one of my all time favourites is from a song called 'robin hood' by ocean colour scene...
'when you're starting to cry,
i will be by your side
and i will love you so
and when the nightmares come
i will try to be fun
but im so scared you know'
and so on. quite tendre and soopy but its a wicked song.
anyone else?

Dec 24, 2003 10:56 am My favourite are from a smashing pumpkins song called "in the arms of sleep"
Sleep will not come to this tired body now
Sleep will not come to this lonely heart
there are some things I'll live without
but I want you to know
that I need you right now
I need you tonight
Or from the smashing pumpkins song, Crestfallen:who am I to need you now
to ask you why to tell you no
to deserve your love and sympathy
you were never meant to belong to me
and you may go, but I know you won't leave
too many years built into memories
your life is not your own

Dec 24, 2003 10:57 am "Just Shoot Me" by Crash Test Dummies
Not a tender song at all. It's a song that says that we are human to the core, and what makes us human isn't always pretty and polished and proper. Our humanity is also comprised of lustful thoughts and deeds, reveling in sensual decadence, and fierce independance.
----------------
Take off your mink coat, take off your muff
Get on the table and show us your stuff
Right here next to me
I'm a fat old man, sweatin' and huffin'
A gin in my hand and your pretty little muffin
Right here next to me
Just don't feed me with no tube
Or change my dirty diaper
If I'm back at mommy's boob
Call in the frickin' snipers
And just shoot me, baby
Stuff me in the cracks, Stuff me
In the toilet, sweetie, put me in the trash
But be next to me
Send me to my room, hold me down
And spank me, use the wooden spoon
But be next to me
Just don't feed me with no tube
Or change my dirty diaper
If I'm back at Mommy's boob
Call in the frickin' snipers
And just shoot me, baby
Dip me in the river
You'll never wash my dirt away
Rip out my liver, baby
But be next to me

How about:
"Tell me is the crack of the poolballs, neon buzzin?
Telephone's ringin'; it's your second cousin
Is it the barmaid that's smilin' from the corner of her eye?
Magic of the melancholy tear in your eye.
Makes it kind of quiver down in the core
'Cause you're dreamin' of them Saturdays that came before
And now you're stumblin'
You're stumblin' onto the heart of Saturday night"

god, those guys were so talented. :(
Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark
Comes in bells, your servant, don't forsake him
Strike, dear mistress, and cure his heart
Downy sins of streetlight fancies
Chase the costumes she shall wear
Ermine furs adorn the imperious
Severin, Severin awaits you there
I am tired, I am weary
I could sleep for a thousand years
A thousand dreams that would awake me

Dec 24, 2003 04:54 pm i got into the banana album years ago. two standout tracks there...venus and heroin. waiting for the man is good too. the rest of that album is okay...i don't think they ever surpassed venus in furs, though, which is just the most amazing tune. their other stuff i am just about to give a shot, since a friend of mine gave me the entire box set, out of the blue. said she got tired of it, and had burnt them all to mp3.

Dec 25, 2003 11:09 pm I'm not sure if I really have any favorite lyrics, but I do know it would be something penned by John Lennon.
this one would rank way up there for me:
Let Me take you down, cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields. Nothing is real and nothing to get hung about. Strawberry Fields forever.
Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see, It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out.. It doesn't matter much to me.

Jan 01, 2004 07:41 pm it's early morning
No one is awake
I'm back at my cliff
Still throwing things off
I listen to the sounds they make
On their way down
I follow with my eyes 'til they crash
Imagine what my body would sound like
Slamming against those rocks
When it lands
Will my eyes
Be closed or open?
I go through all this
Before you wake up
So I can feel happier
To be safe up here with you

Jan 02, 2004 08:17 am Stoneage dinosaurs
A song by Cardiacs from "Songs for Ships and Irons"
Wishing for money is a man growing old and he
breaks our knifes edge with his care for the ordinary
Winning hand in hand Michael Miles plays a game for me
Liberace asks after me and all my family
On down the line a soldier hides his worn uniform in an eiderdown,
says never mind the war just take me home again
for the last time
Jim parades a toy that he won on a rifle range
Holds him up high, its a plaster statue of Peter Glaze, it says the
strangest things
and all we feel is lonely just like stoneage dinosaurs
Wishing for money is a man growing old and he
breaks our knifes edge with his care for the ordinary
And Mr "T" offers me and all humanity a safe place to be
and all we feel is lonely just like stoneage dinosaurs
Loosefish Scapegrace
A song by Cardiacs from "Songs for Ships and Irons"
RIGID LICENSE SEVERITY, To drain the cup of misery
Put dirty water in their tea, Join them to the armies
What are the acts, do they perform in institution uniform
Pay in the price to pay for day, to spill or fritter away
Loosefish bad egg sad lot scapegrace
All my magnitude stops the irons, entering my soul
Here I stand and I can and I like it
RIGID LICENSE SEVERITY, Graceless is the place to be
to drain the cup of misery, Join them to the armies
RIGID LICENSE SEVERITY, Graceless is the place to be
TO DRAIN THE CUP OF MISERY, to the dregs the only place to be
I'm a man seeing if I can be a bigger man
And be the big world holder, And wear it on my shoulder
Confiscate all the hearts and minds, of all humankind
And give a daring operation, To deflect all lifes afflictions
Nastiness disease squander mania prevails
Loosefish bad egg sad lot scapegrace
Here I stand and I can and I like it
To have no being, be the null and void, to be no more
Leave no rack behind
So I dissolve away. So to be such stuff as dreams are made
Rigid license severity Graceless is the place to be
To drain the cup of misery, To the dregs the only place to be
Nastiness and diseases, Will choose me any path it pleases
I dont sleep, I die, My bed is always closing in on me
I DISSOLVE ! , VOID !, VACUUM ! , GOOSEGASH !
I will stake all my pride against my suicide
And wear upon my shoulder, The mark of a good soldier
Malice having the itchy palm with a sparing hand
Making ducks and drakes of evil, With a lesser form of people
sorry for the length (ahem) but i really like the wierdness and childlike strangeness....

Jan 02, 2004 12:02 pm coolo... i think it's "found a way to channel my anger, now to embark"
i could be wrong but that's what i hear.
here's my current fave:
recall the deeds as if they're all
someone else's atrocious stories.
Now you stand reborn before us all,
so glad to see you well.
But not to pull your halo down
around your neck and tug you to the ground,
but i'm more than just a little curious...
how're you planning to go about making your amends
to the dead?
A Perfect Circle - "The Noose"
taken out of context of the song, it can be a little wierd. it strikes a chord with me because i take it as someone who lived a very evil life was babtized and "reborn" thinking that all is suddenly forgiven and the sins forgotten. Obviously i think organized religion is a bunch of bull but that's an entirely different thread.
Jan 02, 2004 02:03 pm I think my absolute favorite lyric of all time would have to be in the song "For The Record" by Stretch Arm Strong. It's a song about going to punk/hardcore shows and how they're much more than just "shows."
"you were more than just a tourdate, we were more than just a song, we sweat and sang together, and that helped us to cary on..."
other lines from the song that stand out:
"bands would come, and we would all sing along (sing along! sing along!) would they ever know, their impact would last so long?"
and
"the world is full of lonely places no matter where you're from, a crowded show familiar faces makes me feel at home"
And of course, just for good measure, I'll throw in a River City Rebels lyric.
"From the heart, from the soul, small town pride is all I know."

Jan 09, 2004 10:51 pm This is a song that means a lot to me and best describes who I am.
Reconciliation by Pain of Salvation
I thought I'd seen hell
Thought I knew it all
Now I know too well
Hell is to wake up
But it makes all the difference
Tasting the tears in my mouth
Taking the weight on my shoulders
The hours and days of your life
Don't necessarily make you older
I'm sick of running away
Along these bloody streets
I'm sick of predators and prey
Of being everybody's end!
I've washed my hands of your blood
Thought it would leave me clean
But with time on my hands
It turned to mud forming this crust of sin
Now - to be truly free
I'll let it come to me
So -break me if you must
When you break this crust
Freedom is to see
Hear this voice, see this man
Standing before you I'm just a child
Just a man learning to yield
I hate these hands soaked in blood
I hate what these eyes have seen
Up to my knees in filth and mud
How it hurts to become clean
I was always on my mind
But never on my side
Run - but if you run away
You'll always have to hide
So if you need to run
Run for help!
