odd question re: IE 6.0 browser & URL redirection

Everytime I come to HRC on my computer at work, it starts to load the front page and then forwards me over to Amazon.com. I think that the culprit is thehungersite.com, that site where you can click to give a free donation of food to hungry people. They have Amazon as an affiliate, and somehow caused my browser to redirect there sometimes. Hitting my back button will take me back to HRC, but it's an annoyance. Anybody know how to get rid of this? I already cleared out my "Delete all offline content" and "clear history" button in Internet Options - no effect. BTW, this problem mostly happens when loading the HRC front page, not with most other sites.
Thanks!

thats kinda weird, I use IE6 and don't have that prob. The only emezon.com references I have are from some dynamically generated links on the bottom of the ads column, but none are auto-forwarding. Does it happen with any other HRC page? Can you go straight to any other page and have it happen? Has you default front page been hyjacked in your internet options? I've seen that happen from time to time? Go to the same place you deelted your cache and see if you homepage got changed...

no, default home page is not affected, and the browser opens to my default blank page as it should. It happens with the front page and sometimes when I submit a post. I don't think it has to do with HRC, I think it's that thehungersite.com that did this to me, them and amazon.com of course. I don't recall this happening with a non-HRC site.

see if it happens now...I removed my amazon.com affiliate links from the left column...looking at the code I would be VERY surprised if that fixes anything, but it's the ONLY amazon.com code I have, and NO hungersite.com stuff...

If that is the case I am gonna go into amazon.com's affiliate forums and blast 'em!

It is proabably a browser hijack, not uncommon in todays unethical advertising gig. Most likely amazon isn't involved at all, but an affiliate of one of their programs is abusing some weaknesses in IE.

Download AdAware from LavaSoft, and give your system a good cleanup.

Tincan, I had the same thing happen but with a differant page being blitzed. I ran adaware and spybot and it fixxed it right up. Same thing with a nasty pop up I got a couple of times trying to sell me pop up preventer software. they get in and youd never even know it. And like Waldo said, it may be someone abuising their affiliation with someone else.

Just got back to work this morning, pulled up HRC - did it again. I'll run AdAware shortly. I've used it before and was pleased with the results. Thanks for the info, guys.

Well, I put the amazon ad back in place, I have to. If it's proven that the ads are at fault I WILL remove them...Members come first...way before unethical ads, but given the ads code I don't see how it would be at fault, plus, you are the only person that has talked about this prob.

Let me know what happens with AdAware.

Ok, AdAware removed the problem. It's not DIRECTLY Amazon's fault. :) Although they apparently purchase ad services from a company that put spyware on my machine...
I still think that thehungersite.com was the site where this problem first appeared... hard to be mad at a charity site though... hahaha

Thanks for the help, guys.
