this dude has been waging this war for a long time. the "problem" with him is similar to the thinking back in the 50s around "hey, if we let this elvis fellow shake his devil hips on the teevee, what's next?" in this particular case, it's about the more outspoken "traditionalist" end of society wanting to squash the liberals before their ideas start to poison everyone else. we all know that music leads to dancing, which the devil is clearly behind.

Some people do believe that dancing is wrong, so to avoid anyone getting offended by that subject lets not bring that up. (and no I don't believe it's wrong, you didn't offend me, I just don't want anyone to be offended)

Now back on subject... Truthfully they cannont band music. The sound of the wind creates notes and can be concidered music, someone banging on something can be rhythmatic. I'd like to see how this all turns out, and I hope the people protest this... although I don't know how much help that would do in that society.

Don't fret. It's cylicolitory. (boy I made a mess out of that one!) Rome did it with Gregory who decided we will only chant. A form of it was excersized in the 60's as we went "back to roots". It is always much easier to attack something superficial than address the root cause. The political tool of supression has been a favorite in the Balcan states for over 6K years. I doubt they will quite anytime soon.

Yeah, I went to a christian grade school and high school that felt that way, it's comical. The high school started coming around about the same time I was going through it. I am not into dancing, been I am into music and I was a big part of bitching and moaning about the idiocy of the thought...with Kevin Bacon being my inspiration :-) LOL.

People are, by nature scared of things they don't know, and many "religious" people (tho not all) just believe what they are spoonfed by their religious leader, be it a preacher, teacher or whoever. And those people can interpret anything any way they wish...which is how one book can sprout hundred of different religions.

So, much like Minkus feels about politics and the "ignorant masses" being bossed around like robots, I feel about religion. I am a Chrstian person, but I read and know the Bible itself...not just what the pastor tells me.

The fat one always watches us.

Here's some thoughts from the depth.......
1) I think that we would all agree that for thousands and thousands and thousands of years people have developed religon's. starting with gods of rain and sun, to apollo and zues, to muhamad and christ and many many more. all groups of people developed all diffrent kinds of "higher power" worship. some very very diffrent some almost the same even though the cultures never met.

2) those same cultures- all of them, (including those deticated to the koran) developed some style of music. here's the thing ive always found odd- all music is based on the SAME notes. the music may sound diffrent but its like all the cultures read from the same "BASIC MUSIC MANUAL VER 1.1 FOR DEVELOPING CULTURES" from american indians, to europeans, to central africa, to japan to the frozen tundra of russia.

3) What this means is- developing a religon and developing music is a natural human deal. It's just a couple of things that groups of people do. In the current case of music banning- well i think thats easy- control of young people. there are always going to be people that abuse power to forward thier own devices. another human nature. If you ban elvis for hips, if you ban pop music (not so bad really) or (and this worked great in the soviet union) ban religon youre going to have problems-Why? because its not like banning smoking- smoking is not human nature- but religon and music, and unfortuatly abusing power is.
thats my rant for the day....

Ya, I agree with you to a point, but, I think you are missing the point with your "it's the same notes" theory as it's not about the notes, the speed, the sound or anything other than the message portrayed with the music where there is problems.

Just like the programming language C++ can beused to make very cool programs or viruses and trojan horses. Yet it's still the same coding language.

You right tho, it is human to look beyond oneself for answers and to the afterlife for deeper meanings in life. Banning music is a shame, tho I do believe there is some music we could live without, not because I don't like the music itself, but the message it tries to send.

Yup, couple months back I read some study release about how some university received a big grant to study the tones used in music. A few kabillian samples of human speach led them to believe that musical notes are pleasing to humans as they are the same as the most promenant vocal tones used in speech. Good way to get Gov. bucks.

As far as the ban, I seriously doubt it has anything to do with any religion. Just people using religion as a tool. If you can establish yourself as "religious" figure you can wield a lot of control. Pseudo profit status. Many have used the technique with profound success.

I have to agree with dB, many things are expressed via lyrics that would not fly in any other social situation. It's art...right. My generation really capatilized on that practice, the "shock" value of lyrics. Mention fornication under concent of the king (thanks brits (chuckle)) and insta gold record. Who has the most time and money to spend on music? Yup the 11 to 18 year old crowd. Who is most titilized with "shock value" yup the same. Wanna make money? There's the formula folks!

Therein lies another powerfull tool. Adolescence is busting at the seams to contribute, or excersize. If you can influence what they excersize, you have a task force in the making. Ten years down the road you have an army. It will take them another 20 years to realize what they did. Nice window of opertunity if you play your cards right. I'm amazed our government hasn't capatialized on that more than they have. We are witnising a generation that is convinced that youth is success. A manifistation of the Peter Pan Syndrom. Parents are too preocupied with being young to raise their children. Hitler eat your heart out! You where 60 years too early!
