...I didn't like Return of the King...

Before I get started everyone should know that I am one of the more imbedded tolkien fans... I've read almost all of the books except for Adventures of Tom Bombadill(sp?) and a couple others...

I didn't like this past movie.

I will also say that my movie going experience at the AMC 30 at Easton (theater 16), Columbus, OH was...well... crappy. The entire movie was out of focus...and the management said 'thats how it was supposed to be!' ...morons!

but any way now the problems I had with the film... shelobs lair wasn't dark...they must have been TRYING to screw that up...all other lights _didn't_ go out so there was no real need for the light of Earendil... The cobwebs were good though..

and the part that actually pissed me off was that the "Rape of the Shire" DIDN'T HAPPEN!! AGH! The movie had a happy ending! it's not supposed to do that! It's supposed to be bitter-sweet because the "hobbits went off to save the Shire" and while they're gone it gets destroyed... with out that they don't come home as heros and Sam doesn't use his gift that he recieved from Galadriel...

There were two good scenes though being the fight scene with the Olephants and when Eowyn kills the witch king.

but I have to complain a bit more so I can get a free ticket to see it in focus...

sounds like a lame experience...I am waiting to read Loki's review too, I know he went last night in full garb of the era...gotta see if he has the same thoughts.

jackson has said that the shire rape felt like an antimclimax. i have to see the movie to know for sure. on the one hand i get what he's saying...a movie has to have a certain shape and form to be satisfying and feel complete...you don't always want to take away from the climax by drawing out the ending. now, i haven't read return of the king (the only one i haven't read yet), but it seems to me from what i've heard that in this case you might want to say 'screw form' and go ahead and make the ending bittersweet. because it's important to the theme, isn't it?

again, though, i totally disapprove of using creed's "can you take me higher" for the closing credits. that's just wrong.

Alright, heres my review: Good Movie. Unlike the book in some ways yes, but whenever you go to see a movie based on a book you expect this. As the third part of a series I thought it did the series justice. Granted they screwerd up the story to make it more movie friendly, but I liked how the movies all fell together. Some of the scences did not make sense if you read the book, and the ending did sort of piss me off, but as I said, I was going in to see a movie based on a book... not to read the books. All in all I thought it was a great movie, almost brought tears to my eye a few times.

And I dont think any movie is supposed to be out of focus. I know I wouldnt pay a dime to see a film that is out of focus. I will go see it o Lokis review, and yes I agree with Loki. I have read everything and woldnt expect to see the book totally in the movie. Maybe I will be dissapointed, but maybe I wont.

yeah movies out of focus are bad. I used to work at a theatre and I can tell you it's not hard to put the film in focus. In fact that was the least of my worries when running film. Film catching on fire, or getting into a brainwrap, or the projector blowing up from holding the pilot light down too long, those were major concerns. Film being in focus was easy. I would have complained and gotten my money back, or asked them to let me go take a look at the projector and focus it myself. The film being out of focus was just someone being lazy.

Well I'm seeing it again this afternoon...hopefully in focus. I got the senior manager to agree to mail out two tickets for my trouble and he offered a better explanation as to what happened. Turns out the lens on the projector wasn't locked down. It was also jammed in varous other ways and the cooling fan wasn't working.

I have been watching movies when the film cought fire... once was during one of those "Sceam" type movies... i can't remember which one... but it was in a climatic scene... nobody complained because it was so funny and they got it going again in a minute.
