Alright guys, What are some good software synths? Also, whats this thing about a USB Midi control keyboard? Does this do what I think, which is if I hit some notes or chords on the keyboard it does the same in the synth?

Yes, the USB keyboard is just that. A controller for your midi and soft synth's.

Do you prefer to run the VST synth's in Cubase, or are you going to run other type's?

There are ton's of soft synth's out now, some better then other's. The type of music you are going to create would tell the tale of which sytnh's would work for you.

ill just give a list of the ones i love:

these are my favs:
native instruments: absynth
native instruments: fm7
native instruments: pro-52
waldorf wave ppg
the fruityloops synths [believe it or not, with some tweaking you can create solid sounds with these]

honestly, it depends on what you want to do. i do a lot of actual programming in fruityloops and it comes across very arpeggiated and choppy. which is great for some stuff. but from time to time you will actually want to play the synths and get them to flow. you gotta have a controller to accomplish this. much easier =)

absynth is mac only isn't it?
And yeah I want to do a lot of Industrial Rock music, so I would need a soft synth which emulates an old analog synth. Also, I'd need one that is compatable with one of those USB keyboards that I was talking about. If I could find a good analog synth down here I'd definatly buy it, but I can't so I'm resorting to using soft synths.

the absynth pc version came out about a month ago. looks just like the mac version.

and as for the compatiablity issue.. there shouldnt be any. all the native instruments synths i believe have a standalone version packaged with the vst versions.. so they make it pretty easy.

The issue of compatability is not really an issue when you are talking about a USB keyboard. It is just another piece of hardware like a mouse or anything, telling the software what to do. And I agree tottally with collapse on the Native instrument stuff. There are also alot of freeware synth's out there to try B4 you spend money on something big.
