Free Soundfont Player VSTi

I know there was interrest in a free soundfont player awhile back. If anyone's interrested, rgc Audio, the makers of the *awesome* Triangle VSTi mono synth, have released a free VSTi soundfont player www.rgcaudio.com/sfz.htm

Just messing around with it seems pretty good. I loaded up a TR808 sf that coolo send me ages ago and after figuring out which sounds were mapped to which keys i was prgramming some old school 808 grooveness in FruityLoops. it's also got a display which reads out musician jokes... i spent a good 10 minutes just clicking and reading them all ::chuckles::

while you're there pick up the Triagle I and II VSTi synths, They're both free and makes kick*$@ inclusions to any VSTi host.

jamie, awesome it was me looking for a soundfont player. This means I'll be able to map samples to my keyboard and play them in real time correct?

Loki,
you will still have to create your own soundfont using Creative's Vienna program, but it's not difficult. I linked to where you can download Vienna from in the other thread you were asking about this. If you need any help, let me know...

yeah I can't find that thread, can you repost the link?

Also, in order to use the soundfonts and stuff I just hook up my keyboard to the midi ins and outs or do the audio outs of the midle capable card need to go somewhere? So far I have all the audio going through the delta and the sounddisaster taking care of the midi.

So, here's the link to Vienna again.

As for your question, I'm not entirely sure, as I've never used an outside controller for triggering midi. I've always used the synths on the soundblaster to play my midi triggered by a software program. So, what I do is open the control panel for my soundblaster and specify that I want it to record midi. Of course, you will have to have the midi out of your keyboard connected to the midi in of your soundcard or somewhere. Sorry, if this post is convoluted, but I'm not entirely sure how to hook things up.

it says that the software is for use with the SB live and Audigy, I have neither of them, I use the defualt emachines card so will that program work with any soundblaster type of card or does it have to be a soundblaster?

I'm not sure. I've never tried without a soundblaster, but you could always try and see what happens. I have a feeling it will work, but who knows....

The link Jamie has at the top has a soundfont player which is like the vienna player. I believe it should work with just about an card as it is software based. I could however be wrong.

alright cool. I'd really like to map my samples across the board, would make selecting them so much easier. So vienna and the link Jamie posted will work together then?

So, Vienna is a soundfont editor, this is what you will use to create and modify soundfonts. The link Jamie posted above is a VSTi soundfont player. This is what you will use to playback your soundfonts with whatever soundcard your using. You need Vienna to create the soundfont. This is where you will map the drum sounds you want to use to whatever keys on your keyboard you would like. So, yeah, you will need both programs.

I must add that PowerFX's Dyad softsynth allows you to use and sequence soundfonts within your favorite mutlitracker like Sonar, Cubase, etc...

And it's a cool little softsynth, you can also layer them and have two layers sequenced the same to mix and match and layer sounds...

Just an FYI.

hmm, if you want to zip the samples you want to use and email them to me, I could make a soundfont for you to use that you could then use with the player Jamie linked to.

I completely forgot about Dyad, my bad. It is a great little synth, real straight forward and easy to use.
