Firewire is simply another type of interface for a computer. Much like USB, only it is faster. You need a firewire port on your computer, if you don't have one, you can buy a firewire PCI card to install in your computer to be able to use firewire stuff.

thanks for the info...maybe an idea of how to use it...i have seen it like the Motu Audio 896HD. i read the little artical and it said "...with or without a computer.." now how in the hell am i going to use it without a computer? 24bit recording at 96khz thats nice, soo i can get that on my Delta 44, whats the advantage? disadvantages?

maybe i should ask...does anyone have one? how do you like using it? does it crash? sound good bad?

any info would be good

thanks

Jamie Garrett and dB Masters for your input so far.

oh ya...i also found out that you can use Ithernet to send information between firewire hardware...so that means, you got yourself a nice ithernet conection in your house, you can send info from one to another with no lag at all...and some even have telephone jack input, so you could recored from one person far off in the distance in real time.... this is what i have read, im very new to firewire...want to learn more...so..um..dont know if these are facts? any body got a flash light? i need some light on my subject....

thanks!!!

Well, the advantage of firewire is that it's external, which some folks like.

In regards to the ethernet...Steinberg has just released a new technology that shares CPUY power via S/PDIF jacks, so you can do you plugin processing on a second PC, but still have all your uadio recording and playback on the "main" or host PC. Much the same type of technology that SETI@home project from Berkeley has used for years to scan the skies for ET.

my external harddrive (containing all my audio data) is a 120Gig beast inside a firewire case.

the benefits of it are; (1) its screamingly fast, (2) one can daisy chain other firewire devices. meaning, the Master device is the only one actually connected to the computer. when i do my backup, i just plug the Slave into the Master and drag & drop the data.
