hi guys. i just had a question about midi controllers. to my understanding, you dont need one of those big keyboard synthesizer things unless you plan on playing live shows. for someone like me that just wants to do studio work and music production. would you recommend just buying a Midi usb keyboard for the computer?
can i plug the midi usb keyboard into the computer and use a software synth program?
can i achieve the same sounds i would get with a hardware keyboard with onboard voices?
can i plug the usb keyboard into a hardware synth machine and use it that way?
is this a good one?

Yes I would recomend it, yes you plug it right in the USB port, and it sets up it's own midi port.
No, you will only be able to use the sound's you have available in whatever soft synth program's you have. But if you use a soft sampler program, then you have a whole nother world to live in.
No, you can't plug it into another synth, only into the PC, or if the synth has a USB port, which none do.
Yes it is a good one, to start with, it is velocity sensitive and that is the important part, for expressiveness.
ANy more question's let me know.
Oct 02, 2002 09:13 pm After MUCH comparison shopping, I think this ED PC-300 is the controller I'm gonna get. It's a little bit more expensive than a Midiman Keystation 49, but it has velocity-sensitive keys. From all the liturature I've read about the Keystation 49, it doesn't seem to have vel-sens keys. Is this true?
