greetings all
i am glad to be back! i kinda left on a trip without saying my goodbyes. i went out west. drove from orlando to los angeles (2600 miles by my count) then took amtrak up to portland, oregon. that little train ride took 29 hours. here's my two cents on amtrak: if you're going to do it--do it only if you must, and be sure to stay liquored up the whole time. the train is equal parts crazy drunks and senior citizens, which in itself is an interesting thing, but if you ride coach, sleep may be a hard-won thing. if i ever have to do it again, i'm spending half the trip in the bar/lounge chatting with the ladies, and the other half passed out in a sleeper car (with the ladies). stay away from coach! at all costs! a 56 year old italian mobster-lawyer stereotype will chat your ear off and a dark stranger will get on at salinas while you're in the bathroom and take your fiercely-guarded second-seat, robbing you of your "bed!" you will spend a half an hour bolt upright locked in mutual hatred before you find a solution!
its been about 3 weeks away from musical instruments and away from HRC. many times have i wished for internet access, a coffee, and HRC. ahhh, HRC.
