Just finished first mix on a new guitar thing! I'm gonna replay a few parts but I'm 90% satisfied with the performance now.
What do you guys think?
It's called, "Roll Up the Sidewalk"

Oct 06, 2003 02:35 pm Awesome Shred! The mix sounds strong to me, and very good guitar playing.

Oct 08, 2003 09:43 am it must really be nice to hear guitar work in your head and make it come out your fingers. You've got a really good guitar imagination AND the ability to make it come out. Great job, great playing. in the 13 years ive been playing i havent played as many guitar notes as you have in this one song.
What Tony thought of the mix......
now im listening at work on laptop speakers, (not the best set up)- so is there a bass line in there? if not it screams for one, and throw some reverb on the piano and drums. that should make it a little more rounded and not so edgy. the guitar already sounds good, its the backing stuff.
thats it from the humble desk of tonyd

there is a bass part in there...perhaps your not getting it through your laptop speakers... also I do have some reverb on the piano and a slightly tighter reverb on the drums... I was going for that Robin Ford drum sound...
LOL! at "in the 13 years ive been playing i havent played as many guitar notes as you have in this one song."
Melodicly speaking, I was doing something Robin Ford-ish (one of my favorite guitarists) then adding some Steve Vai-ish stuff in for good measure(another one of my favorite guitarists).
thanks for listening

Oct 10, 2003 09:14 am thats very cool shred...I dig it a lot...ya know, I STILL need leads done for the three "project tunes" listed in my profile ;-)
Very nice work. And yes, there IS a bassline in there tony, it's subtle, not the focal point, but it's there and fits in and does it's job nicely.

Oct 10, 2003 01:31 pm Yeah, the more I listen to this, the more I like it. The piano put me off a bit at first, but as the song progresses, it takes it's place, and the guitar shines through. The guitar playing is awesome as usual. The name of the piece matches the song. I do think the snare could be brought up in the mix a bit though. Enough random thoughts for ya?
