just curious as to what everyone else thought.
i really dug it. was a little more laid back than the first one.. but damn. they really used some cool layering on their sounds and vocals.

Sep 30, 2003 08:11 pm "blue" is rad with that bass delay and chorus. "pet" has that cool heavy APC sound, and "weak and powerless" is a cool song. is it just me, or is the radio version of that different from the album version?
if you guys have heard any music by failure, do you notice musical similarities? aside from the cover of "the nurse who loved me", that is.
Sep 30, 2003 08:40 pm el musico started the same thread back in the pro forums. i LOVED Mer De Noms so now you guys have got me dying to hear this new one. what's it called, The Thirteenth Step?

Sep 30, 2003 10:39 pm actually it was my blog that started a thread about this subject in the pro forum...
and yes there are similarities to failure. one good reason is because troy (left APC for queens of the stone age) was failure's guitarist and he also played on the cover of "the nurse..." done by APC. musicians often pickup residuals from other members and who knows how much influence troy had on billy.

Oct 01, 2003 06:54 am I'm quite disapointed with the new album, it might grow on me perhaps, but i dunno, there aren't really any "rocking" tracks, i read a review which described the single "weak and powerless" as being simply weak and powerless!
heh, i think i agree!
Oct 01, 2003 08:57 am unknownforces, i kinda felt the same way the first time i heard Mer De Noms... I was in a "tool" kind mood then and it wasn't until the second time i listened, just me and some headphones, chilled out in my room, that it made sense. i immediately started working out the chords to the arpegs in 3 libras. still love that song no matter now much i hear it.

Oct 01, 2003 10:32 pm If ya dont like it right away, sometimes it takes awhile to grow on ya. I know I love the new APC disc, a bit quiter and subdued perhaps, but great none the less. The complexity of the of the tunes is still there, and that is what makes Tool and APC great, simple but complex at the same time.
nuff said.
