it is not mentioned here often? Is it hard to use or easy? (relative to all the others mentioned here) Will I be able to take my laptop on the road and mix without taking my digi 002 rack along?
Digi 002 rack
Pro Tools 6.1
AMD 1800plus processor, 480 ram, 60 GIG HD laptop, no special soundcard, (can one be installed that will do well?)

i think its pricer and harder to use than what the rest of us use, cubase or sonar or intuitive etc etc

having said that, ive never used it...so i dunno.

jues'll know better than me probably.

my pc's a lower spec than your laptop, so you should be able to run some sorta sequencer on it...id use intuitive mx with windows 98 personally, but someone'l have a better idea about that than me

pro tools isn't mentioned a lot here because the majority of us do not use it. I don't like the stuff personally. It's all proportionary, meaning you can only use protools hardware with protools software, can only use protools plug ins... ext.. Also it's pretty pricey. In all honestly pro tools doesn't do anything that other sequencers and hardware can't. I can use Sonar and a delta 44 and get the same results for like half the price. Protools is like nike shoes. You pay a little for the actual product (In nikes case something to cover your feet, in protools case something to record on) and a lot for the name. Just my personal opinion though. Feel free to post questions about it though, as we're all here to help with facts, not opinions. I know at least one of us uses protools.

Oh, and as far as I know in order to take it on the road you'd need a laptop with a USB soundcard, but I don't use a laptop so I don't really know.

thatd make mixing easier too, save you using those crappy laptop speakers...

having said that, what with more and more music being downloaded and played on little speakers (like ipods or minidiscs, headphones, whatever) maybe thats not such a bad thing...

I'm not sure you would be able to use the software with out the hardware , pro tools didn't let me open it with out the hardware connected ( i had the digi 001 for a while) so you would ( and don't quote me) have to bring the 002 along as well as the laptop . Pro tools is a killer app , I didn't find it to hard to use but I found LE limiting , with compatibility and a few other things. The top of the line pro tools HD units are great but will cost you as much as a car . I find you can get great results (pro sounding) with out having to break the bank .

No, you will need Digidesign hardware in order for ProTools to fireup.

You guys all covered it all here already, but as a former ProTools LE user, I can vouch for all of this stuff. These are exactly the reasons why I'm moving my studio away from PT.
