ok i herd DB raving about nuendo (spelling?) and i was looking for a program that would support ASIO drivers, so i downloaded it to see what its like, i have a few quesitions. it seems like you can only have 4 effects pertrack? is this true?

When i went trew my dx effects it wouldn't let me use any of the cakewalk effects. did cakewalk make them so you could only use them with there programs?

and my last question is can i use the DXi instruments (i think thats what there called) like you can with sonar?

other than that this program ROCKS it blows sonar away in my opinon....altho the easyness of sonar is really nice, but i guess i will just have to think a little harder. :)

Honestly I don't know about the 4 effects per track, I have never yet had to go beyond that so I have never looked.

I believe Nuendo will use DirectX plugins and that is what Cakewalk's are so they should work there, they do work in WaveLab, so I don't know why they wouldn't in other Steinberg products.

The DXi instruments would depend on the DirectX implementation in Nuendo I suppose. I prefer to use VST effects and VSTi instruments (tho the VSTi is very rare for me) as they use less CPU and RAM to run. DirectX uses a bit more. I have done side-by-side comparisons of the same effects, one in DirectX and one in VST and the DirectX always uses at least 25% more CPU sometime up to twice as much as it's VST version. Or, that is what my research has told me anyway, not saying it is true in all cases.

Also, keep in mind, if that four effect limit is true, that does not include the limiter and EQ options that are part of every channels control panel. Also, those foru effects you are thinking of are just inserts. I believe you can also group effects into aux sends and returns and route channels through those...I think...I will look into it a little more to make sure.

Also, you need to remember you can apply effect's off line. At least you can in Sonar, and it will do it non-destructive. Which means if you don'd like it you just go back and it is gone. And when you use the FX offline, you can stack as many as you have the nerve to line up.

And in doing sound design work, I have stacked a truck load of DSP processor's to get what I want.

Are they? See how much I know... haha. I don't really use DirectX plugins.... I just use VST plugins for the most part...

Maybe you only get 4 insters in the demo version of Nuendo. To be honest, I think you guys would be much better off with Cubase SX, it's far better priced.
