new member, new to studying recording...this is the best place for getting up to speed..
i'll keep studying before asking anything...just learned about the pod series...thought "that's the gotta have" then learned of other similar type gear...the more you know, the more you know you don't know!

so...my girlfriend is in the computer industry, which means i get to use whatever the latest most powerful pc (about to get another one) is AND she can install and fix whatever aggravates me! and she can help me understand all the technical aspects of the pc based recording that i learn about here.

Welcome withrawpower! I second the motion for the POD. THere are others on the market that are great, but I still think the POD is the best over-all unit for the money.

...my playing will be worth recording! oh and yesterday started playing violin too!

wow.

What music do you want to play? There are varying engineering styles that apply to the different musical genres. At the end of the day, a digital recreation of a guitar tone, alougth more convinent and easier to master, is nothing more than a reproduction. The true tone of a guitar lies in the sound coming out the cones. And a mic is the closest thing you've got in your toolkeat to recreate your own (and your audience's) hearing.

jues is probably right but

i am back to liking my POD now. all the demo versions of vst distortion engines that i tried didn't stack up in the end (or else i wasnt able to understand them: a distinct possibility).

POD is the best for emualtion - but mic'ing up a cab is the better way to go... (IMHO of course)

wow...thanks all for the warm-as-tubes reception!
jues, i edited my profile to include my musical tastes.
i'll probably look at the pod 2.0, not needing the recording yet...unless i leaarn significant other difference that makes it worth it, since lots of pod 2.0's are flooding the market now that everybody wants the xt; i can wait.
has anybody seen this particular pod 2.0 demo site? it has clickable dials on the graphic, rather than just the preset playlist like on line 6 and other sites.
i stumbled across it a couple of days ago and can't find it at all again...it's the site that got me excited about pod...if i had only the current demos to go by i wouldn't have been near as enthralled with it...the leslie sound especially!...hope to find some in music stores to try out.

Noize has used both and I think he once compared them in a thread a while back. He's camping out all this week (i think) so I bet you could find some info if you search thru the older threads. The search function in the upper right corner has recently been suped up. Check it out.

Noize is back, he should be back in full force tomorrow. The biggest difference between 2.0 and XT is that the XT has a few different amp models, plus it has cabinet AND miking type models (as I recall) plus it has a USB port (WooHoo!)
