Mic pre amps on Behringer mx series mixers

What do people think of the pre on the mx series mixers (I have the 602). I'm about to get a condensor mic and am unsure whether a standalone preamp is necessary.

Thanks

they work.

i've got the 802. they'll do just fine so long as you don't mind a little hiss. once you compress you can expect a little more hiss. add a few more tracks and the hiss will get pretty noticable.

They're not the best preamps in the world, but for $65 i'm not complaining. But a decent rackmount tube mic pre is something i'm concidering. Maybe the ART TPS which sells new for $180 at Musician's Friend. In the meantime, I'm using an M-Audio AudioBuddy and those pres aren't really noisey, albeit dry and sterile as hell.

A standalone pre isn't nessecary. I recommend getting a compressor first. It'll make a real difference on something as sensitive as a condensor. You can always roll off the hiss with a LP filter ::shrugs::

It depends when you got it. I few months ago when Behringer started putting out the UB series mixers they started using a new preamp, and I am not sure, but another member (Noize2u) insists they started using this new pre on the MX mixers too. So if you have a later model MX they should be substantially better. My UB pres are just fine.
