Your problem is too vauge.

Is this when you are composing? Have you set up the XV-88 correctly so that the correct instruments are assigned to corrosponding MIDI channels - that sounds like the problem you're experiencing.

as ever, RT-M applies (as it always does :)

well it's like this:
My computer (having Sonar) is hooked up to my mixing desk (Behringer), which is hooked up to the XV-88 (audio) But the XV-88 is also hooked up via midi directly to my computer..
and so i tried listening to a midi file
but all i got was some weird sounds that didn't sound like the midi was supposed to sound

and in the midi track I assigned the output to creative bladieblah :D
and what is RT-M ???

add the missing letter and away you go...

Hmm, does the Roland XV play correctly when you just plug a MIDI keyboard into the back of it?

Presley, are you setting the correct patch (synth sound) for what you want to hear? You will need to set a patch that corresponds to the patch number or sound in Sonar for the XV-88 to set itself to or else you will just get random sounds. The midi sequance must have been set up for patches that are general midi compliant, and your SV does not follow that set-up. Try soloing each channel as you did and look at the patche you have choosen for the channel you are using. If it is not what you want to hear , then select a patch that is what you want to hear.

If you can tell me what it is you are doing, as far as how many tracks, what patches it should be, and so on myabe I can help you iron it out.

You may need to import or create a patche list in Sonar, although I think Sonar has the instrument defanitions for the XV-88 in it to import allready. Although I did not see it when I took a quick look, you might check Cakewalks website for an updated instrument def. list.

It just sounds to me as if you just arent getting the patches shoosen properly. You might also want to check and make sure local control is off on the XV as this can cause midi echo and other problems as well.

Let me know and I will try to walk you through this.

Presley, go here www.lilchips.com/oldsite/cakewalk/ins/idxrol.asp and you will find the XV-88 .INS file you need to import to get your instrument definitions into Sonar.
