pizza's my favourite food by miles, especially a thin crust cheese and tomato, with extra pepperoni and a little pepper, then sprinkled with those little chilli things, some extra cheese then salt and pepper, washed down with a nice bottled beer

so, just out of interest:

1) whats your ideal base

2) whats your ideal topping

3) what your ideal drink to accompany the meal?

i must be bored...

Pizza is kinda like sex, even bad it's pretty good...as far as toppings go, the more meat the better. As long as it is meat, pile it on. Drinking with it, well, kinda depends on my mood.

...ya, you must be bored...

trader joe's (a health food grocery store in california) sells this frozen thai chicken pizza...it's got this:

chicken
peanut sauce w/ chilis
cheese
green onions
bean sprouts
cilantro

it's absolutely delicious.

that trader joe's pizza sounds like something i need to try. is the brand name also trader joe's?

so far, i've seen this only in the northeast, especially pittsburgh, where i'm from:

ultra thin, soggy, floppy crust
cheese
pepperoni
extra sauce
the key to this type o pizza is that it's so greasy that when you pick it up, grease drips from it. a pool of liquid on top. it's great!

on the healthy side, carraba's here in orlando has a thin italian crust with:
black pepper
whole mozzarella
sliced tomatoes
fresh basil
olive oil

that knocks my socks off.

other good things, in general: pineapple, multiple meats, jalepeno's, pizza hut pan crust.

fortymile - yeah trader joe's sells it under their own name. it's in the frozen food section along with the other frozen pizzas (including BBQ chicken pizza that is sort of like jues'), but the thai pizzas tend to run out quickly during the day.

as i hardly ever drink alcohol (it makes me a bad man unless with ground control) i prefer a nice coca based carbonated beverage.

I can dig beer with it..but growing up it was always Coke!

i like my pizza extremely hot, greasy, thin crust and not compressed, there has to be a defined layer of mozzarella seperate fro the sauce, toppings? Chicken cutlet on occasion, otherwise plain, witha touch of salt and occasionally cayenne.

Hey uhuhbigfan, I'm right in the middle of Baltimore..Essex to be exact. Well..between Essex and Dundalk. Lived Somewhere in MD all my life. Most people will admit that MD is the best place for crabs and fries(boardwalk fries of course)We used to have great baseball but I still love the O's!!!!!!!

The People's Republic of Dundalk, hon!! Yeah, I know that area well. I know most of B'more pretty good. Bein' a truck driver, I get to see the finer spots in Philly, DC, B'more, and the surrounding areas......NOT!
I got family in Middle River.
Small world, huh?
Maryland is the only place for crabs!! Often imitated, never duplicated.
Not much into the O's but can't wait for football to start up. Whether the Ravens win or lose, I love that game!!!!!

Man, I don't want to get in tuabue here but a certain green "spice" comes to mind that a frined once used to season a pizza. Unlike being baked it had no psychological effects. Fabulous on pizza. Disclaimer: This is not a recomended spice by either the myself or this website. Merely an observation.

Personally, I like the kind of pizza that someone else eats. I can not leave it alone. It is my nimisus food! There I will be stuffing myself with it, while my stomech is yelling "you fool, you fool! this hurts!". I envision the pizza delivery person having horns and cat like pupils at the door with the evil temptation extended in front as I stand on the other side of the door making a cross with my index fingers.

Is there a pizza anonomous? I ask as the room fills with chanting voices; "just one...just one". The funeral would have to be either closed casket or with a maturnity suit! I don't know how I survived raising three children. There have been some close calls. Thank god for plungers!

Lotsa Marylander's around here huh? Weird to hear people talking about Ocean City and such. I've developed an aversion to salt water taffy. The stuff makes me ill.

Best pizza I ever had was from a place called.. I think it was "Leaning Tower". My mother used to work for the Gaithersburg Gazette, Gaithersburg, MD, and I'd go to work with her to play on the UNIX machines. Her department would order pizza from this Leaning Tower Pizza, MAN, they used tomato paste instead of tomato sauce. It was awesome!

a friend of mine used to own a pizza shop and he developed a 'spinach pizza' . His pizzas were thick crust, he would coat the dough with olive oil and a little garlic, add big hand fulls of washed spinach (no red sause at all on this pizza) add cheese, on top of the spinach and cheese I liked to add onions, canadian bacon, mushrooms and sometimes pineapple. My friend no longer owns the pizza shop and I jones for his spinach pizza.

I just drooled on my keyboard.

Lost for words with all to say.

Guys... I hate to break from my normally tolerant and diversity-supporting nature here, but you ain't had pizza until you've had Chicago pizza.

I'll say it again, bolded, so none of you mouse jockeys miss it:
Chicago pizza is the best pizza on Earth.

I await your multiple stunned retorts at this epiphany.

Of course.... to be realistic about this, you do have to go to one of two places to get the best pizza. I'm sure there are a number of places that are better than the many so-so pies available in the Chicago area. But I swear, folks - there is nothing that can top a pizza from Giordano's in Chicagoland, unless that is a pizza from the little known chain called Nino's.

The spectacular pinnacle of legendary tastiness to which I refer is the Stuffed Pizza. Get it with sausage and a little extra garlic, wash it down with Coke, good beer, or cheap red table wine, and don't forget to keep the Rolaids handy and your cardiologist on the speed-dial. I've seen up to an inch of delicious mozzarella on this bad boy, dripping with red sauce, and sausage, and oooooohhh baby I know what I'm getting for dinner tonight!

You can't top it - you can't stop it. This pizza is the juggernaut of Italian cuisine. Clearly, it is in the category of the traditional pizza here, so no comparison to a chicken/thai/no red sauce type o' thingie is really possible... but in the world of red sauce and mozzarella pizza, this one is The King.

Mama Mia's Pizza (Geneseo, NY)

It's a thin, NY style pizza. Although I fancy pepperoni, plain cheese is amazing there. Beats anything I've ever had and competes with real NYC pizza. I wont eat anything else there when I'm in town. A good light beer goes quite nicley with it, typilcally Rolling Rock then some Guinness or Sam Adams afterwards.

Albertv05, I'm just curious here... A while back, Pizza Hut had a pizza called "the big New Yorker" that they said was NYC style... Any idea how that compares to the real NYC style pizza? My wife and I always wondered how well it stood up to one more "authentic". (She's in culinary school and we're both food nuts, so I'm genuinely interested in any replies...)

HOW COME NO ONE HAS BROUGHT UP WINGS??????

I was fortunate enough to go to school for 4 years (and still live an hour away) to Buffalo, New York; home of the chicken wing (aka Buffalo Wing) There is NO BETTER WING found on this earth than wings from The Anchor Bar; the ORIGINAL home of the Buffalo Wing. They are amazing. Perfection. Extremly tastsy, yet not slopped with sauce. Friday nights we'd go there, listen to live jazz, eat wings, and drink beer... best place ever to go on friday nights when I was in school. DUFF's is a close second for wings in Buffalo, but they do not compare.

My wife has the semi-secret original recipe for hotwing sauce from the place that came up with them. I think it's 1/2 Crystal brand hot sauce, 1/2 butter (normal, salted butter, not the unsalted kind). I don't know if it's the original or not, but the time she made this, we were both blown away by how good they were. The recipe works just as well with boneless breaded chicken breast strips as it does wings. (we prefer the breaded wings too, actually)

i have to take umbrage at the notion that chicago deep dish pizza is the best. to each his own, but personally i have been very disappointed by every deep dish pizza i've ever tasted. admittedly, the only deep dish pie i ever had in chicago was at o'hare. so who knows what i'm missing. my point is, unless the crust itself is very very tasty (not too dry or fluffy--gag) then it matters not how much of it there is!

on the other hand, i've rarely been disappointed by a sloppy, thin, greasy NY style pizza. so thin you can fold (but don't fold, that's lame.)

as for wings, when i was a kid there was this dive bar in pittsburgh. they fried their wings and coated them with a HEAVY mixture of paprika and garlic salt. this is some kind of polish variation, no doubt, and it seemed like we had em every friday. my god were those addicting. i often spruce up chicken with a similar mixture.

Oh, 40... don't judge us by our airport pizza, PLEASE! :)

On the topic of crust... it's not a cracker crust, and it's not a fluffy crust either (like the deep dish at pizza hut, right?). It's something else entirely. The outside surface on the bottom and sides is very dry and flaky (though less dry on the bottom, of course), and gives a good bite. The inner side soaks up just the right amount and combination of tomato and cheese juices to have an almost bagel-like texture and chewiness (though it's very thin). The crust on the tail end is a gastronomic microcosm of flavor and clingy cheese strings and pools.

Enough raving about pizza for this post... hey, that garlic chicken you describe sounds pretty good. I may mention that one to my wife. :)

yeah i know. i cant judge by the airport pizza. whayt i meant was, i've had many deep dish pizzas in my day, but the airport pie was the only one i ever had IN chicago. now i want to try it to make sure i'm not jumping to conclusions. for me dry and flaky and bagel and chewy are all major turn-offs, though. and as far as pizza hut pan pizza, (i dont know how thier deep dishes are) i gotta say i like the pan crust because it has the oil in there.

anyway, all pizza is basically great. anyone here from italy? they just passed pizza LAWS over there.

Well, there's room for every kind of pizza in this world. hahahaha I do love the good stuff... but I admit, every now and then we still go out and buy a few Totino's "party pizzas" at the store. They're bland and greasy, but it's kinda like soul food to a former starving student. :) Add a little garlic salt, they're not half-bad. Actually, I do like the Pizza Hut pizzas as well, though they can get a litle too buttery/greasy at times.

Mauz is from Italy, I think... what's the word on pizza law, man?

I got to eat there once before the place burned down ... too sad for words .

the humble pizza is the food of the gods and no doubt.

I love a big massive pizza with a thin base, some cheese, some red onion, some cheese, some white onion, some cheese, more cheese and little cheese on top! Garnish with a little more onion and cheese and finally add a sprinkle of cheese (must be mozarella) and bingo.

You have a steaming hot pile of cheese and onions! A bit like a MASSIVE bit of cheese on toast! Dunno aboot you guys over the pond but us lot love the cheese on toast.

A pizza is an extension of this...the onions are purely for flatuleance purposes! hehehehehe

we amerikanos love cheese.

my favorite cheese is a block of reggiano parmesano. i used to buy one of those (7 bucks for a small block) and gnaw on it while eating a stouffer's lasagna. i was addicted to this for months. that cheese is the food of the gods. so sharp, so nice.

other good cheeses: gruyere (thats the stuff on top of french onion soup), extra sharp cheddar, smoked mozerella (the moister the better), muenster, manchego.

oh, man, I love manchego cheese. That stuff is the bomb... It's the perfect snack cheese, with some nice salami and a cold, sharp beer. You know, I actually saw that stuff one time a few months ago being sold as preprocessed cheese slices, individually wrapped, in a regular grocery store next to the American cheese slices. It must be getting popular.
