M-Audio and SB Live

Hi folks!!

I know this has to be possible but by now I just can't make them (An audiophile 24/96 and a SB Live 5.1) coexist in my system.
I need the AP 24/96 to make all the audio recording, but I'd like to make alternative monitoring from the SBL and also MIDI and the for me very usefull MIDI metronome in SONAR.
Is this possible???
Any of you guys with a similar configuration??
Some tips are wellcome.
For your information, when I try to use both cards the system becomes unstable. You know Sonar crashes, audio dropouts, clicks and pops.

Yes, it should be possible, I know Noize mixes a Delta 44 and a SB Live! Your profile does not say which OS your PC is running.

For starters, make sure each card has the most current drivers and that the cards are each on their own IRQ.

About my OS, Windows XP Pro.
I'am using the latest drivers for both
cards about the IRQ settings, well I'am
going to find out.
Thanks dB

Yes, you may have to move the card's around a bit. I got mine running like a top with no problem's at all. I did have to move the card's around a bit though to get it all to co-exist, but it did.

This brings up a question in my mind. I have a Compaq EVO, P4 1.7gHz. It has a sound card built into the Mobo. I have ordered a Delta 1010 and should receive it tomorrow. Along the same line of thinking as here, can I run the Delta 1010 as well as the integretated sound card? It seems Compaq has made it a little difficult to disable the stock card.

Thanks, Terry

Compaq makes it hard to disable anything on their systems...I HATE Compaq...however, you should be able to run them peacefully together. Only one way to find out I guess...

Thanks Noize.
I'll try moving the card a bit. Also, I'am planning on a HD format just as a mantainance task. I've heard of the ACPI (or something) trick and think is an important one to get the two cards to co-exist what do you think??
cheers

ACPI is a bit of a shady subject sometimes (at least for me) it has caused more harm than good.

Personally I would disable it if you can. ACPI is another way Windows tries to take control of your PC. That said, another member of this community says fault lies more with the people that write device drivers not writing for ACPI...so, regardless, it does make problems with some components, My surround sound card HATES ACPI but my standard card has no problem with it. SO roll the dice and see what happens ;-)

my delta 66 and sblive both co-exist together fairly well. im running xp home and when i did a clean install, xp actually set it up correctly first try.

im actually thinking about taking my sblive out and just using the delta 66 for everything.

Actually, the only need of the SB Live on my setup is the midi metronome that I find very useful when working with other non experienced people.
I've tried the virtual sound canvas (stand alone version) but the system turns unstable with it.
I think is an XP bug because I used the VSC before with Windows 98 without a problem.
Anyone knows if there is a softsynth (like the VSC or the Yamaha SYXG) that works with Win XP??

Sonico, you could also try finding a small outboard GM synth. I know the only reason I use the SB in my box is because I design some sound Fonts for people and of course the SB card is the best for lating them out and playing them back correctly. And I also do GM sequance's so it essential to have the standard sound set, and SB use's the best generic sound set out there.

Last I heard Yamaha was working on an XP version of their softsynth...that's all I know on that subject though.
