Are there any free directX spectrum analyzer plug-ins on the internet? I can't seem to find one, and putting Ozone on every track I want to check is rather impracticle, not to mention slow...

Jun 13, 2003 10:30 pm Waves NPP has the "PAZ Analyser" (which is awesome) - but that's a long way from free...
Sorry I can't be any more help on this one. :(

Jun 14, 2003 12:17 am didn't you say earlier that you have sound forge? there's one in there...or am i mixing up posts?
Jun 14, 2003 11:41 am Nope, I don't have Sound Forge, just Sonar. I'll probably end up having to pay more money for this... oh well. Maybe I'll just go all out and buy that Waves EQ plug in with the spectrum analyzer and "spectrum copier" or whatever they call it. That would be awesome :-)

Jun 15, 2003 08:02 pm what is a spectrum copyer?
Jun 15, 2003 08:18 pm by "spectrum copier" i think they mean these special EQ plugs that listen to one song for it's spectral curve and then apply it to another so that both songs will have the same spectral qualities.
i've never found one for free, but there is one by Steinberg called FreeFilter.
but it's not free
wierd huh?

Jun 15, 2003 11:55 pm can anyone elaborate more on the VST to DX wrapper? i've been feeling left out for so long! :-)
Jun 16, 2003 05:41 am It really just what it says, it's an app that allows you to open a VST plugin (and often VSTi's as well in host apps that can only use DX or DXi plugins. There is a good one at fxpansion www.fxpansion.com , also there are some free ones discussed on these forums somewhere...search the forum and try to find them.

Jun 16, 2003 12:12 pm to let you know, it seems like fxpansion's wrapper has been acquired by cakewalk. the wrapper i'm using is one that jamie referred to. i'll post a link here just to have another reference:
www.directxfiles.com/manu...inaudio_vst.htm
thanks guys!
Jun 16, 2003 12:14 pm Ah, that must be the wrapper they bundled with Project 5 then...when I installed Project 5 I got a VST wrapper I wasn't even expecting.
Boy, Cakewalk is acquiring lots of cool stuff, I wonder if they are publically held...
Time to go check NASDAQ.
Jun 16, 2003 01:14 pm Ah yes, FreeFilter was what I meant. It's not a Waves plug-in. Eh, close enough. Thanks for the link, Jamie.
Jun 16, 2003 01:22 pm I'm pretty sure FXpansion is the only free wrapper, and the free version is a little lacking. Oh well, I guess you can't argue when it's free!
Jun 16, 2003 01:56 pm FreeFIlter was a Steinberg plugin, I don't think it is available anymore, if it is, it's only part of a bundle of plugins...the mastering edition maybe...

Jun 16, 2003 09:54 pm No Free Filter is no longer availabe. I believe they may be releasing it in a bundle as dB refered to but as of now it is not available on their website. Only the updates to the previous version of it.
And yes, the FXpansion VST wrapper is the one that CakeWalk now owns and supplies with Project 5. It works great and I cant be happier about it. Now if someone comes up with a DX to VST wrapper, Ill be in hog heaven.
Jun 16, 2003 10:26 pm Noize, why would you need a DX to VST wrapper? What VST host doesn't support DX?
Jun 17, 2003 04:49 am IntuitiveMX for starters...many apps don't because word is VST is easier to support, and I am not sure but I would guess to support DirectX (TM) you owe Microsoft some sort of royalty.
Jun 17, 2003 05:02 am i think you owe Steiberg if you use VST.
maybe Steinberg isn't as grubby greedy as Microshaft
Jun 17, 2003 05:09 am VST was made by a group of people as a standard for high-performance multimedia interface, I don't think they ask for royalties...but I am not sure about that.
But it could explain why the small startup companies only support VST. Kinda like why freeware graphics apps often don't support .gif, cuz Unisys owns that...and a few years (when it got to be huge with web work) ago they started asking big money for royalties. But I think that their strnglehold...er, patent, runs out this month, actually...
Jun 17, 2003 08:04 pm VST is definitely a trademark of Steinberg, but they seem to let just about anyone use it, so long as they give credit i guess.
