Got me a new Bass, USA Fender Jazz! So stoked.

I finally broke down (or, the wife let me break down) and buy a new bass, and not a bargain basement/pawn shop bass...I got a 2001 Made in USA Fender Jazz. The thing sounds awesome thru my MarkBass rig...so my Peavey Millennium has now been demoted to the backup bass.

So far I've done two gigs with the new rig and it's killed it...

It really feels good to actually be happy with your sound and not really on the hunt for the next piece that is needed...not sure I really need anything...weird.

Maybe a 2 channel recorder to record the shows with? ... like a Nagra Seven? :)

I think some more XXX bottles will help compliment the sound. Ha ha.

That's awesome though. Why do you think the Fender sounds better? You think it's just a matter of complimenting your rig better? Or better components?

I am assuming the quality of the cuts of wood are more strictly monitored with the higher end models...whereas the Squire, Epiphone or "second" lines for the high end brands probably don't have as strict of requirements in that regard. Though I have also played some awesome "second line" instruments in my time, it's not quite as guaranteed, it's kinda just luck of the draw. :-)

This is the first bass I have had in a long time that has passive pickups, so I wasn't sure what to expect, as I am so used to actives...just goes to show the quality of higher end components. I'm a guy that has gotten by on pawn shop finds most of my life...feels good to have a nice rig...I always had decent gear, reliable and sounded good, but never like this.

BTW, as far as the XXX bottle goes, the singer and I both have one for our stage water...our band is "Moonshine Prophets"...so they double as stage props. :-)

I have found some pretty awesome "second line" instruments over the years, super cheap, in pawn shops and buy n' sell stores like Music Go Round, but, it takes some time, patience and trying them all out. Every now and then a diamond comes through. I have a couple...

But the higher end, name brand stuff is easier to predict...but, it costs ya! :-)

Hope you are well, man, good chatting again.

Yeah. I just realized earlier this year that almost everything I've ever bought for music/recording has been used except for cables. I was pretty happy with myself, ha.

But definitely, good chatting with you as well. Things are well, and I'm inspired to make music and record lately (and I actually have the space to do it now). It's cool to know that I'm not the only one still making music.
