hey i just got a spectrum analizer and was checking out my levels on my guitar (distorted) i pulled it up (the spectrum analizer) and the eq together and moved the bands around...nothing happend...well not really...i figured out what i was doing...i had the effects chain going like this....GUITAR-EQ-COMPRESSION-MAGNETO-SPECTRUM A.
.....when i took out magneto it worked...sum how magneto was like boosting everything....like if i took out the bass it put it back or..if i boosted the bass it turned it down...why does it do that...should i put mageto before my eq??!?!

magneto is a saturation plug, it simulates the warm compression effect of a hot signal to tape.

I've never used it, but I'm sure it's this compression/saturation that's adjusting your bass levels. I think magneto is meant as a mastering tool to be applied to an entire premaster or master 2-track recording. but if it sounds good before your EQ, go for it.

Magneto can, by nature of it's primary usage, make signals clip. And yes, I use it as a mastering plugin and never in the multitracking situation. I know some folks do, but I personally don't.

I have magneto and it just seems to make every thing sound loud, I can't seem to make things sound any better with it.
I've never spent much time on it but is there a secret combo I'm missing?

For me the default setting alone adds volume, but it also adds a thickness and warmth to the sound that is very analog-ish. I rarely do a mastering job without it.

I use it on individual tracks as well as on pre-masters. It is as stated a Analog tape saturation pluggin nd it will add gain as well as distortion is driven to higher threshoulds. If use properly it warms up the signal very nicely.
