I have recently acquired a "new" PC. It is running windows XP. I'm sure the hardware is a little out of date so I want to upgrade it for recording purposes only. I am using Sonar 8 PE on my current (windows 7) computer but its the family computer and is getting bogged down with crap.
The problem is every internet search I do for the minimum requirements for Sonar 8 I get redirected to Sonar X. I've been using 8 for so long I forgot the requirements.
The new PC I got has 704mb of RAM so I know that I have to upgrade that.
It has a 2Ghz processor as well.
I'm not a huge fan of windows 8 so I don't want a new PC.
I got the PC for free so is it even worth it to upgrade?

May 18, 2013 04:09 pm Is your processor single core or dual (or dare I ask quad?). All I can find is "AMD Athlon XP Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent", no Ghz mentioned.
Yeah, RAM should be maxed out, whatever that is for your machine, minimum, a couple GB...

I does say a minimum of 256 MB RAM, I kind of have to laugh at that, I remember Sonar 7 wanting more than a GB if I used a lot of effects and VSTi's.

May 21, 2013 02:04 am I used to run an old XP machine (10 years old) up until last week when it completely crapped out on me. I didn't run sonar, I used an old (1.5) version of Adobe Audition. But I got by with 1.5GB of RAM and 2.2 GHz Celeron processor. I expect Sonar to use a bit more resources, but I bet you could do ok, unless you are doing some crazy effects processing.
