I played around with quite a few axes at Guitar Center the other night. I am considering purchasing an Ibanez AF85TDG Electric hollow body. I'm not done looking quite yet, but I really liked what I heard. Are there any similar models around the same price range that I should definitely play before I decide? Thanks for any input received.

I can't remember exact model names/numbers, but I remember really liking the middle/higher end ESP hollow body electrics...though Ibanez isn't bad, I've liked ESP's playability and build quality. May be worth checking out, they have a couple a hundred or two dollars on either side of the Ibanez.

Thanks db. I think I will venture into the vault at GC and check out an ESP. I should probably take this as an excuse to play a PRS as well, although that is on the high end for me. I am strongly considering picking up an acoustic fretless bass guitar as well. It just sounds like a ton of fun.

I ended up purchasing a Gretsch g5120 and Dean Exotica Quilted Ash acoustic bass. I must admit, I have never played a guitar that I've liked better than the Gretsch. It was love at first sight. I was happy to find the bass used and in very nice condition.

I am definitely looking forward to rebuilding my little project studio now! The fire was a huge loss, but at least everything was insured. There's about another month of rebuilding left, so I'm told. Then, unpacking a mountain of boxes. And finally... setting up the studio space again. Maybe I will have a first track down by Xmas. :)

I don't have anything to add other than that I'm jealous! I have a Gretsch G100 125th anniversary edition that I love. I only wish I had an acoustic electric Gretsch too. I wish I had a fretless so bad! I like the bass on Graceland too much not to buy a fretless at some point. You just bought both of the instruments that I still have on my GAS list. Why is it that a "complete" arsenal of guitars always seems like it's only 1 or two instruments away?

The bass on Graceland - I hear ya. Made me want one as well. I did end up skipping the fretless requirement when my GC didn't have a fretless acoustic... I will have to buy one someday, though - and like you, I also think of Graceland when I think of a fretless! Also Jaco Pastorious. I am pretty thrilled with my big woody fretted bass though. Also I am playing bass a lot more often, as I can hear myself without being plugged in.
