motu 8pre won't work on new computer

hellloo!

just signed up looking for an answer. My new computer, mac osx 10.7.4 won't recognize my motu 8pre. I installed the software but the difference between this computer and my old one is the fire wire plug is 5 pin. So I had to buy a special firewire cable that went from 8 to 5. Is that the problem?

thanks for any help

That could very well be the issue, I'd suggest calling Motu...but then, with every mac upgrade problems can result...is the software certified to work with 10.7.4?

My MOTU 8pre wouldn't work with a generic Firewire/1394 PCI card. I bought the suggested "LeCie" card (read on some forum) and it worked like a champ. That said, I suspect its the firewire setup.

What firewire chipset is used by macs? VIA or Texas Instruments? It seems that a lot of firewire audio interfaces don't play nicely with the VIA chipsets in many cases.

Dude!! That was it..... MOTU 'requires' TI Chipset for compatibility. That's why my generic 1394 PCI didn't work.
