routing with hardware and DAW

I recently start using a hardware mixer again, in combo with Logic 9. I am trying to wrap my head around all the routing possibilities. I watched a couple youtube videos on the subject, but I think I need a decent book or video tutorial. Any suggestions for a course that teaches this using both hardware and software? I will be using more than one type of mixer and daw, so I need something general enough to apply to any console and DAW.

I think an excellent tutorial for this type of thing would be
Analog Mixing Consoles: Layout Signal Flow and I/O. It is produced by macprovideo.com. They have a massive library of video tutorial in hd. This one has very good production quality, and hits all the main points, and then some. Here is an example from the site:

poweredby.nonlineareducat...gnal-flow-io/25

If this one doesn't quite doit for you, there are a few others there as well. The Art of Recording series is very comprehensive, and one of the courses is a guided tour of an SSL console.

Or, if you give us some more details, such as hardware you're using, some of us folks here can probably help get you sorted. Signal flow and routing is not too hard to get the hang of. :)

Just let us know what hardware you are using, and some details about what you are trying to accomplish. I.E. what types of mixers, any outboard effects units (compression, EQ, verb, etc.) are the mixers digital or analog?

As for DAWs, it's really just the workflow that changes. How to set up tracks, where the channel routings per track are located, etc. etc. Some of us use Reaper, some use Cubase, some use Sonar, I think at least one person uses the Presonus DAW, and the list goes on.

Keep us posted, and we'll see if we can help out. :)

Its not a matter of a specific task I am trying to achieve, but a more confident understanding. I work with a variety of musicians, and composers. The gear ranges from rock equipment, to analog synths, to operatic vocalists(not really gear) and piano. I also use sibelius for the more classical sounding music, Logic I use for recording and jamming with east west's play sampler. The east west composer collection provides a good portion of the sounds and instruments. Thanks for the responses. I'll check out the videos, and keep on looking back here
