Hanging with J-bot!

J-bot and his lovely wife are in Philly for a relatives graduation. Tonight, J-bot and I had a chance to hang out together. I asked if he wanted to see where I work at? And he thought that would be cool.

Off we went up to Bauder audio. To where I believe he had a good time looking over all that we had up there. I pulled out a few keyboards for him to play with. One of which, he had his eye one for buying for his own collection. The Nord 2X. Let me tell ya, the man can play the heck out of that keyboard! And just for fun, I pulled out the Moog Voyager, and a Roland KC500 keyboard amp. As he was getting a sound that he was happy with, I told him that we don't have any neighbors up there, as I reached over and cranked the amp up. :)

I had a great time hanging with him tonight. And I look forward to seeing him and His wife tomorrow for lunch, and showing him some spots around town. Plus, Saturday is his birthday. And I am working a gig over at WXPN that I getting them in for.

Yeah, it's a free show, but you have to reserve. I'm working it, so no problems there.

Got to give it to J-bot. I think the man has meet more of us HRCers than anyone else. :)

Haha, yeah, good times being had by all here. :)

I really like the feel and layout of that Nord. With the metal tabs under the keys, it's very similar to the feel of my Xboard midi controller. It is also very easy to program. Hardly any menu diving, plus I'm familiar with the architecture thanks to the Synth-1 soft-synth. (I want one even more now, grrrr) I think I may have actually had a dream where the owner was selling the Nord for half the retail price. (hope I didn't drool the pillow too much)

I also messed around a bit with an Alesis QS8.1 and an old Ensoniq TS-10 that is probably not going anywhere any time soon haha! The Alesis was nice, and reminded me of a good solid stage piano, and then some. The Ensoniq was good too, some nice very 80's synth sounds in there.

I should have messed with that Moog Voyager more than I did though, haha. But I was more in the mood to jam a bit rather than program some sounds. But yeah, on that Nord, I was putting that KC500 through its paces on the bass end. :D

So, today was a continuation. Brought my wife Heather along, and we got some lunch and toured around some sights. Walked around the streets a bit after lunch viewing the Victorian style buildings, and some parks in the area. Saw the original building where the original Bandstand was held. Then we popped over to the World Cafe/WXPN and met a few folks over there, including Chris, who is the (Producer/Engineer was it?) and chatted a bit. Got to see their control room, which was cool. They've got a nice setup with that board + a pair of Genelecs and NS-10M's :)

We hit the art museum after that and went around looking at the exhibits. My wife took a good number of pictures, and we basically walked around til they started closing some of the areas. After that it was back home, and we got dinner with the parents.

For the record, the parents spent most the day at the dealer. Apparently a squirrel got inside and chewed through some wiring. So they got that fixed, and were back at the hotel by around 6:15pm. Did dinner at the nearby Ruby Tuesday's.

Tomorrow, it will be me and the wife attending NonComm, and later on for dinner, it will be the Beer Garden. Possibly fitting in going to see Deadly Shadows if we can fit it in, but no biggy if we don't have time for it.

On the night we got up here, we went over to the graduating cousin's place and celebrated a bit. I met a guy, Mat Clark, who plays with a band called Aunt Dracula. (I'm 80% sure that's the right band at least) Talked with him a bit, and gave him my contact info. Told him about what I'm trying to do, and how I'm handling pricing and stuff.

So yeah, it's been a bangin' trip so far. It was great to meet up with Rob and his wife. Still have NonComm tomorrow, and dinner at the Beer Garden. Then it will be a morning flight back to the heartland on Sunday (I think we get home in the early afternoon)

Good stuff!

Yeah it was good today. I think that I walked J-bot more than what he was expecting to. But we had a really nice day. :)

Chris over at WXPN is their recording engineer for the World Cafe's and most of the live to air sessions. He's one of the greatest guys that I know here in Philly. The other person that I didn't get a chance to introduce you to over at the Philadelphia Art museum was Jerry Market. Now he is one of the Philly promoters for Electric Factory, which is also Live Nation. I wish that Jerry had a few seconds, but it looked like he was in a hurry. Now don't forget about Paul Severson from WXPN as well. Paul is Mr. everything to WXPN. He's the man that keeps the wheels spinning over at the radio station, and the World Cafe' venue.

Well, I'm glad to hear that your folks where able to get their car back up and running! You got to watch these Philly squirrels. Turn you back for to long, and your car will be up on blocks with no wheels or engine! See you think these people out at the parks are just feeding the little guys. Little did you know that this is how the squirrels broker their deals for their stolen goods! Crafty little guys! :)

So, I guess the two of us will have more to write about after tomorrow. As the line up for the show I'm working looks to be a good show. Stay tuned. Adventures of J-bot and Rob should be interesting! :)

Yeah, it was a good trip. :) Got to meet some good people, got to see some nice gear, got to hear some good bands at NonComm, and got to see some cool sites.

NonComm was good. Was out in the shade chillin' with the wife hehe. After the show Rob pulled me up on stage for a chat and a farewell. Got a look at the live sound board they were using, and had a quick chat with the guy who was operating it.

After the show, we headed over to the beer garden, Frankford House, for a dinner, and hanging out with the newly grad and her parents for a bit. My in-laws wanted to eat there because it was supposed to be German food. There wasn't a lot for me, so I just had a burger.

They still think the Waldhorn in Charlotte, NC was better. Basically they feel the only way they'll get better German food than the Waldhorn is to actually go back to Germany at some point, hehe. Near Iowa City are the Amana Colonies (we're heading out there this weekend for the Renaissance Festival) which is a historic German settlement. But even their restaurants weren't as good as the Waldhorn haha.

But yeah, it was a good trip. Hanging out with the in-laws is always good. Her dad is a retired Microsoft employee. Think he was a MCSE. So we usually have stuff to talk about.

I'll try to get some pictures up soon. They're still on the camera I think. I'll probably just put them up on my facebook, and maybe a couple choice ones here on HRC.

sounds like yas had fun.
JB when you come to OZ we will have to catch up for a beer ey? hahaha.

I remember saying i was coming to the States a while ago, a few times, geez that never happened. Its still on the cards tho, always rumours of my band doing a gig or 2 there as support for other bands at metal shows.

Would love nothing more, Will come hassle as many of you as possible, show me the sites, keep me outta trouble etc.

had my mind set on an iconic food holiday there, wanna visit all the MUST TRY joints as i can. The Phaal curry in New York is just one.

Well, anyone that wishes to catch up in Philly with me, needs to do so in a hurry. As I am soon to be a Vermonter. I close on a house up there on the 8th of June. :)

I felt bad that J-bot and I couldn't hang during NonComm. The way that they scheduled the show, we only had five minute change overs. So, as one band was playing, we were busy with the next, getting them ready to go up. However, the weather was the most perfect sunny day for an outdoor show. Which was different for a WXPN show. Normally it is the most hot and humid with periods of showers type day with them. Or as we call it, the hardest way possible!! But that day was great! J-bot found a shady spot to hang, however is view of the stage was a giant bush. He may not of seen the stage, but I can tell ya that he heard it! :)

Would love to be able to meet many of you on here.

Going to drive route 66 from Oklahoma City to Santa Monica this October but I don't think anyone of you live anywhere near enough.

OKC is a 6 hour one way drive, and I wouldn't mind a 6 hour drive through most of the country...but the route from Kansas city, through Kansas, through Oklahoma, to OKC is the most miserable drive imaginable. OKC happens to be the most miserable city in the United States. I think there have been official studies, but all the scientists involved in the effort became depressed and wandered out into the windy, barren Oklahoma snow to die. Kansas and Oklahoma really just get in the way, when you think about it...
