Seems a new piano virtual instrument is released every other week. What's your current favorite? I'm sure there are some good built in pianos packaged with DAW's, but I'm interested in something I can get my hands on in PT. Preferences?

Holy moley I just found this website for testing virtual instruments using MIDI controllers over the net. Too cool:

Cool.

Right now, I'm finding Sound Magic's Piano One to be pretty good as a freebie. It's a "lite" version of other stuff with fancier settings, but it's good, and they're supposed to update it later at some point to add a feature or two.

The Salamander Grand is also a free piano, but it is SFZ (and sampled), so you'll need to load it into something like Alchemy or some other softie that can load sfz files. Note: apparently Salamander's xml settings aren't read properly by some SFZ players (alchemy included) I think the old SFZ soundfont player (the old one, not the newer one, nor the cakewalk version) could load sfz files and correctly interprets the settings on the Salamander piano.

Other than those, for payware, while I haven't tried them, I've always heard good things about the 4-Front True Pianos.

Also worth looking at:

NI Alicia's Keys

Synthology Ivory series might be worth looking at.

Sound Magic Imperial Grand is probably decent, and they have other piano softies as well.

Vienna Instruments Bosendorfer Imperial Grand

4-Front's True Piano, and Modartt Pianoteq are supposed to be pretty good.

Acoustica Pianissimo is another one I've heard good things about.

That should be a good list to look through. :)
