Ugh, I have..... GAS!

Seriously, can't afford it, but my brain has lately really been GASing for a new keyboard synth. The Nord Lead 2x in particular. I like the Nord Wave as well, but the lack of arpeggiation kinda kills it for me. It does have some interesting sonic capabilities with the wave loading and stuff though.

But yeah, I like the sound of the 2x, and it seems a lot of others like the sound too, from what I've read around. Very punchy, gritty synth, but not as warm/fuzzy as full on analogues. I guess it's its own beast.

The nord stuff is well out of my price range though, so that keeps the GAS on the down low at least. I'll just keep watching demos and what not lol! If I manage to make back some money recording people around here, maybe I'll be able to save up for one. I kinda want to sell my Korg R3, and get a Nord. (Totally keeping my Miniak though, a.k.a. alesis micron in a different shell) But I guess I wouldn't need a keyboard like that unless I was gigging. (which hey, it could happen, depending, haha.)

I also like the older Alesis Andromeda A6 but damned if it's not A) Pricey even on the used market, and B) really hard to find. Not sure I'd have room for it anyway though haha.

So, anyone else jonesing for some new kit?

Always! :)

For me, I have been looking at the Lab Gruppen 10000Q's. Clair Brothers has been unloading them as they are upgrading to the 200000Q's.

I'm in the same boat as you. Price and space. The final frontier! :)

been thinking about a nice reverb plug, a really nice one. The lexicon bundle seems good but pricey! Very pricey! 1500+pricey.

Yeah, I don't like the lexicon audio interfaces (lamdba/omega/etc.) but they do make decent effects stuff. Hmmm, now that I think about it, in the thoughts of possibly maybe (small chance) of gigging in the future, I might want a nice drum machine to go with the Nord haha! Course, I suck at programming beats. I could always come up with some sequences via jamstix, and do it that way I guess. :)

Otherwise, I'd love to have a DSI Tempest. But the Dave Smith stuff is pricey. Though the Tempest is supposed to be designed by Roger Linn who was behind another previous well known drum machine. (Think it was the MPC series he designed) But yeah the Tempest is quite pricey.

Holy crap! I mean, it looks really nice graphically, but I think I'll stick to Gverb and TAP Reverberator (43 presets). They'll do the same thing... and they're free!

Dematrix, have you tried Nebula? The reverb vectors for it sound amazing, and at a fraction of the cost of anything else on the market. You do need a veerrrry powerful computer to run it though.

Na cant say ive really looked Col, havent done much research at all im still using the cubase ones and they arent that good mate.

will check out Nebz for sure.

@Hippie,
hmm im not sure theyll sound as good as Lex's ones mate, but ya know a nice reverb is no point having if ya mixes arent in line to show it off. I dont think im there yet, the Lex is something for down the track maybe.

Oh, and a slight "oops" on my part. I had mentioned I was getting the sE Electronics SE2200A MK2 mics. Well, that's still technically true, but I was unaware there was also a C version coming out.

So, I'm getting the SE2200A II C's in. They don't have the multiple pattern selects of the regular MK2, but they do have a high-pass filter and a 10dB pad. So I think it will still make for a good all-arounder. :)

Maybe I'll get the regular MK2's later on, if everything goes well. Also want a pair of X1's. But, all in good time! :D

Okay, new source of GAS, haha.

This is one I had forgotten about, but it looks like it will be released over here in the states next month....I -think-.

Studio Logic Sledge. A new VA synth that is very knobby much like the original analogues and the Nord Lead 2x, and some other stuff.

www.studiologic-music.com/sledge.html

The Sledge appears to have the DSP based on the Waldorf synth engines. So: 3 Oscillators with the 1st Osc being able to use the PPG Waves. Seems to only have a single multi-mode filter though, and it is not a multi-timbral synth like the Nord Leads.

I'm still looking hard at it though. :D But yeah, I think I'm realizing I want a knice knobby hardware synth, and I'm getting tired of menu diving.

I'm still looking an eye out on evil-bay for a used nord lead 2x on the cheap though hehe. But if the street price on the Sledge isn't too horribad, I might be looking heavily at it.

I had GAS hard until I finally realised that the biggest barrier to my success is myself and my limited skills haha. Since then I've been re-discovering the basics like tracking well, automating the faders, and song structure. Amazing how you can gel a mix with intricate automation and changing the structure a little. My work is the best it has ever been!

That said, I've got my eye on an SSL stereo bus compressor... ;-)

Yeah, learning what you have inside and out to better yourself and your skills is something I support 120%.

I just feel like having more hands-on parameters will A) help me program the synth more easily, and B) be much more inspiring than diving through tabs on an LCD screen, or needing the computer to edit patches via software. (which is marginally better than the LCD screen)

The larger keybeds would be helpful as well, but that's just a bonus xD

I think in my case, it's about establishing a better more intuitive workflow (well, that and knobs do have a fun-factor just for being knobs haha!)
