Ugly Drums Fixed By Wallpaper?

I inherited a drum kit that sounds decent, but it's jet black and the finish is completely jacked up. It looks like someone drug the shells behind a car.

I've found this kick *** wallpaper in my parent's basement that feels and looks like leather (it's not leather by the way). It has what looks like Japanese Banzai trees burned into it. Really cool.

I was wondering if there are any ideas about if this would mess with the sound or resonance of the drums. My thinking is that it wouldn't because the wooden shells are already encased in paint and then a finish.

If this would work, I would probably have the coolest looking drum set in the Midwest.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

Interesting...I wouldn't think it would affect the sound for the reasons you state, and the sound is, by and large, based on the inside finish, and flexibility of the shell...and wall paper, even thick heavy wallpaper, would have a very minimal affect on flexibility and none on the finish, of the interior of the shell.

I'd say give it a shot...

Sounds like it's worth a shot... sounds cool.

If it doesn't work out, you could post the kit on craigslist as a 'Road-Sorn' Series(tm), which according to Fender makes it worth more. ; )

We used to skin drums with vinyl years ago. All kinds of vinyl is available. The vinyl we used had zero affect on the sound.
