Recording with a reflection filter?

Oi,

I'm in the process of bumping up my studio for an upcomming project that's going to involve me sitting being the mixer for the next few weeks. It's nothing too serious but it's serious enough for me as it's going to be the most song work I've done in quite a while.

I got 4 singers, 2 Bands, and about 3 rappers trying to get spots in with me. I guess news travels in town when people find out you built a recording studio.

So here's my deal, I converted the old section of my workshop (Car detailing business) into a studio with the help of some good friends. It's a good sized room actually were able to set up 2 additional mini booths. The problem I'm having is with the main room where we weren't able to section everything off completely because of the buildings design.

I'm getting some bad reflections out this area and that's with 70% of the room treated. I've heard people talk about reflection filters before but only heard so so results from using them. Someone from another forum where I asked about this before pointed me to one called the "Soundkitz AE-F PRO" and said they had been using one with very good results.

I'm interested and probably will get this one since it's not too much compared to something crazy like $300bucks. I know I'll make my money back from my sessions.

If anyone is familiar with reflection filters can you give me a chime on as to what else might be good so I can compare and contrasts?

Thanks, Eva2

we made a recording in a 4x4m rehearsal room with a 5 musician live jazzband (v,k,b,dr,perc)

the singer was singing in a TLM 103 behind a halfcircle reflection filter facing into the room, behind her on the wall we put some wool blanket.

the voice is nearly separated without reflections and ambience.

of course there is some spill from the other instruments, but it was worth the action, later we put nice plates and halls on it.

if budget is a topic you easily can build by yourself

cheers!
