I recently purchased a rebuilt laptop with windows XP I GiG.
I'm having trouble with static and popping on all of my recordings. I had no issues with this on my old xp laptop. I've used all of the usb ports. two different USB condensers and an m-audio fastrack all with the same results.
Is it worth changing the soundcard. this is very frustrating as I only want to do simple live recording. I use audacity and am trying to learn Sonar Cakewalk LE.
thanks in advance as I am a novice.
sincerely, Kirby

Oct 31, 2011 08:45 am Have you made sure all the device drivers are updated to the most current revisions? Are you using the integrated sound card? If so, yeah, it would be worth upgrading, or perhaps looking in to a device driver like ASIO4ALL and see if it helps at all.
Nov 01, 2011 01:34 pm Yes, I have updated all of the drivers and downloaded ASI04all with no better results..
seems the only thing left is soundcard. I am concerned this will not alleviate the problem and I will be out of money
Nov 01, 2011 01:40 pm Well, there are other issues to check...perhaps some rogue part of XP is not configured like it was before...make sure all your default devices are set like they were, look for resource conflicts, perhaps some apps running in the background that weren't on your other machine...there are loads of options in that regard.

Nov 01, 2011 05:02 pm Really sounds like buffers to me. Try adjusting the buffers on the soundcard.
