I gonna get me an extrnal hd. im just not sure what one to get.
basicly i wanna free up cpu on my Mac. Im running things like Ezdrummer and EWsymphoinc chiors, cubase 4 bieng my DAW.

I also have a lot of music in itunes wieghing the crap out it memory space wise, i think i have 50gig left of 250gig hd.

Im i best to get an external to run cubase off of, or am i best to run EZdrummer and chiors and anything else off it, along with throwing all my itunes crap onit?

Better to go firewire or usb 2.0?
If im better of running cubase of it, am i best t get a real high speed ex HD? Like 10,000rpm? Theyre available, whehter its needed or not i dunno.

i dont konw much about macs or running external HDs for actual programs, but i use one just for backup, to make sure my own HD doesn't get too cluttered. U can get up to a terrabyte really cheap nowadays for HDs that r used mostly for storage. Again if just for storage it probably wont make a ton of difference between Firewire and USB 2.

If u want something to really speed up ur music work alone, ever check out one of those Muse Receptor units? they have other similar devices, that take on the processing of ur VSTs n such, i dont have any experience wiht them myself, but the concept seems solid.

I wouldn't use an external drive to run apps from, but it would be wise to use that external drive to store audio projects and music and movies you may have...leave the apps on the system drive though.

yeah? Hmm ok. well if thats the case at least getting the itunes stuff off will be good.

syncing things up might be a bit tough using outboard HD but i wouldve thought theyd have something to deal with that these days.

Do you know much about the product crux mentioned?

I read an artical that said to use your external for your all of your recording audio printing and saving. It frees up you internal HD so it can focus on running your software, add-ons-vsts-and what not. I'm no pro, but the idea in that article seems logical.

Heck yes indeed! I love that solution. Next time I have a truckload of money to blow on recording equipment, I want a 512 GB SSD DRAM hard drive as my OS drive with all apps on it, a Velociraptor drive with all my sessions on it running hardware RAID1 with an identical drive, and another Velociraptor with all my sample libraries.
