i know DI boxes are a really important tool in a recording studio but after i ordered one, then i realised that my mixer may be to high-tech and have something like that already built into it and i may not need the DI. did i do the right thing by buying it?

well, it will always be useful in a live situation, especially if u play bass or acoustic guitar. There r probably no wrong purchases unless something outright doesnt work or if u feel bad about losing the money. The sansamp ultimately will just provide another flavor since it does have its own tone shaping components and it might have some other functions that ur mixer chanel doesn't provide, ground lift?

solid piece of kit either way, maybe its uses will become apparent some day soon.

yea thats what i was thinking... they look like an unreal piece of equipment from all the video's i've watched and everything i have read on them. only reason i was asking is because im only new to this type of thing, so i havent really had anyone teach me what my mixer is capable of doing yet... i have taught myself like the basics, but the eqs, auxs and things i do not know yet

When u say ur mixer had DI functions I'm guessing it has like a Hi-Z button or something labeled instrument input, which is really the heart of any DI, the sansamp like i mentioned however is kind of a live piece of gear that gives players a bunch of other functions that r useful to them from on the stage. If ur sitting infront of u mixer and ur plugged directly in, all teh EQs and things r right there wiht u, but when ur on stage u need those functions to come with u and be at ur feet.

In terms of recording, the paradriver can also be handy if u say, want to split ur signal to directly in the mixer and to an amp for miking. U could even just split it for different applications, like one output going to an effect or something, the possibilities r endless.

well im only going to be using it for studio recording, it'll probably never be used for live sets, unless someone close needs to borrow one.

as far as what the mixer has, im not too sure of, people do say its a pretty decent mixer and has got alot it can do, but as far as me asking what everything does on here, ill probably sound pretty damn stupid. i think i'm going to pay a tutor to come in and teach me the mixer side. thanks for your help with the DI part of it, really appreciate it
