What is the difference between sound and instrument. I am new and confused. I have instrument sets and sound sets in studio one artist.

Kiran, I have severe personal objections to helping you with anything after your 'hack software' thread, but I will point this out to you.

An instrument is exactly what it is; drums, guitar, bass, etc.

A "Sound" is something reserved for either keyboard use, or otherwise background or ethereal effect- something meant to be just what it says; a sound.

Hope this helps.

Dear I am not hurt at all by by what you say.Yes you may be right in telling me that you have some reasons after the hack thread. But do you not think that i am bold enough to ask this question? I do not use any hacked software. I use Acoustica mixcraft which is given to me as a complimentary software and i have this studio one artist which is a very good ( although gave me lot of trouble). I have some softwares just to see what these were but i never used them like sonar x1 which was also a demo version. I saw on the pirate bay that people are selling thousands of softwares very easily. I never bought them. Near my place there are many high end recordists buying nuendo and selling it at a contract for 800 us$ a year sub licence. I do not want it and that is why i was surprised and asked many questions about it. I am not a thief if you suspect like that. It is natural for you to say like that. Thanks for the answer. I will be asking more questions like this as i am 65 years old and want to learn this fascinating art

Kiran-

I meant no offense to you, please understand that.

I welcome you to HRC!!!

In all honesty, over the last few years, people have asked similar questions with means to an end of committing piracy. I'm not accusing you of such an act, but merely speaking my mind based on such previous experiences.

Either way, my answer stands- Within a Digital Audio Workstation or any of it's subsets; a sound is a manufactured essence real life or imagination and an instrument is the recreation of an instrument.

I'm sorry if I offended you. But you have to understand the worldwide culture here- stealing is bad. And given we get a lot of 'innocent' questions here at HRC, I believe we are in the right to be judgmental at times, when the question of validity calls for it that is.

Again, I apologize if I've offended you, this was not my intention.

Your questions, as with anyone's, are always welcome here!

@ Kiran: In my DAW, a virtual instrument or instrument track means that the method to control the sound samples are integrated into the track. For example, I use a piano software instrument and the sound and method to play the sound are one and the same. I also have a sound set that is the raw audio data, and it requires a sample (sound) player, such as Native Instruments Kontact Player.

Here is the free sample player I mentioned:
