I have recently started recording using Cubase Le 4, at first it worked fine I've even recorded 4 tracks. I have a Lexicon Alpha audio interface. nothing has changed since I used cubase last, When i open cubase I can talk thru the mic and hear the playback thru my headphones (slightly, mainly only one headphone usually the left) when I came to putting a beat on cubase I would set everything up like I did before hit record but once i play it back its recorded over the beat and there is no sound. also even with my headphones plugged in it all of a sudden stopped playing out of the headphones?

I am not recording over the beat and i've also opened previous sessions I have saved up where it worked fine and just deleted what was previously there and recording something else and its just not working.

anyone have any ideas what this problem is? I have recently had my laptop looked at and fixed and its working as normal so I dont think its anything to do with that!

anyone?

Quick question: Can you hear playback normally outside the DAW, i.e. just playing back mp3 files through a player at all?

It sounds to me like it could be one of a couple things. Either a signal routing issue in the DAW, where maybe the playback isn't through the same outputs that the headphone jack listens on, or it could be an issue with the Alpha's headphone jack itself. Or your headphones may just have crapped out on ya.

Can you hear the playback if you have regular speakers plugged into the alpha?

Things to try (if you haven't done so already) Connect some speakers to the Alpha's outputs, and see if you get playback at all. See if you can get normal playback on headphones and/or speakers in a media player, or streaming audio from soundcloud, etc. etc.

Chances are, if you can get normal playback outside the DAW, it's just a routing issue, and you set the outputs on either the windows, DAW or track settings to something else by accident. If you can't get any playback at all, you could try uninstalling/rebooting/re-installing the Alpha's drivers, and see if you can get it back up.

I've heard of folks having issues with the lexicon alpha/omega lines, and sometimes the units just crap out after awhile. If all else fails, you could try contacting Lexicon's support line, and talking to a tech there and try to troubleshoot it some more, which may or may not pan out very well. :P

Keep us posted, and we'll try to help out too, of course.

Easy peasy, just check your computers sound cards settings. Sounds to me like your sound card may have gone back to basics!
