durring recording I sometimes get that ever so bothering hum that comes from mony sorces ( mixer, amp ext). For guitar recording I use a POD or POD like amp mod, and if i'm not mistaken that act as a DI box as well . I was wondering i ran the POD through my DI box would i get less unwanted noise ? I've been able to fix or get rid of above said noise on the PC but I would like to at least lower if not stopping it before it gets into the mix . the less I have to fix the better plus i'm still attached to my my outboard rack gear , something about being a male and liking to turn knobs and push buttons.

I would say the first thing you should do is try to seek out the source of the noise. Is it a buzz or a hiss? If it's a buzz, then it's either due to a grounding problem somewhere in your signal chain or some other electrical device introducing the noise to the signal. If you have flourescent lights in your room, a dimmer switch for regular lights, or you computer monitor close to your audio components, these can all add noise to your signal. What you need to do is go through your signal chain and eliminate components one by one to determine the source of the noise. If you can suss out the source, you're problems will be solved. If you can't, then you start dealing with plug-ins and processors to remove the noise. But obviously, the ideal is to eliminate it from the start.

It's outrageously expensive, but the Waves Restoration Power-Pack will sort out all those problems in software.

However, blue is right, you should eliminate this problem long before it reaches your A2D converters!

jues.
