what methods do you use to blend 2 vocal tracks doing the same thing?

Im wanting to blend 2 tracks together i have atm so they sound more like one. so i guess im looking for delays or verb methods if anyone uses them?

anything for that matter.

Cheers all

Do you mean, say, two (or three, or more) voices singing the exact same line or phrase? I've overdubbed my voice as three separate tracks for backing vocals, and they all get the same treatment-they're on the same Bus. I've also done backing vocals where I comp the main singer; I'll sing the same phrase as him. There, we both are on the same bus (in this case), and get the same reverb treatment, though the EQ is run differently off the track, going into the bus. Does that make any sense?

yeah Tim, i mean singing the same thing. These 2 tracks are going throughout the whole song.

Im looking for ways to make sure it sounds like 1 track tho, as in any tonal differences here and there can be hidden somewhat behind a delay or something.

I was gonna go for the delay, but i thought there might be some tried and tested method some here have use ya know?

i just ended up cuttting and pasting any wayward inflections.

really works well if you have the time, which i dont, i dunno how i managed to do it so quick.

sounds nice and big with 4 tracks of the same thing in spots.
Needs to be on the money or it sounds like a whole heap of tracks yelling abuse at once but slightly off time to one another..

i'm not sure of the overall goal here....if yer tryin' to keep them as close to 'identical' as possible, keep them paned dead center mono...but certainly time and tonal and pitch differences will happen....which is usually the desired effect...but things can get mucky VERY fast...less your name is maynard james keenan ("Johnny" A Perfect Circle reference)......do ya want them to sound "blurry" or "exact"?

Yes, I'm in agreement with whosyourdaddy . . . If you want it exactly the same, copy the track, and add EQ and reverb treatments. I've actually never done this, though, preferring to sing something over and over 'til it's right. When I solo a backing vocal track, and then solo it's second or third try, there's always little differences. but when they're together, it sounds good. The differences (slight) make it sound, I don't know, thicker or chorusy, or something. I did have a track that had a flat sound in the chorus vocal; I just figured that it was just me, being overly picky(!?); when I finally bothered to re-solo it all, I was aghast: one of my vocal passes (out of 5 total) was God-awful. It was subtly queering the whole backing track. And this was a track I put up on CD as a demo! I'm now re-mixing the whole 6 song shebang; the amount of little and not so little things I let get away from me is astounding. I've learned a lot since then, and the new versions of the songs are a lot better, I know.
So: I'm looking forward to tracking other singers, doing backing vocals, both in chorus and solo. I recently read a nice piece on Roy Thomas Baker, the legendary British producer, who did, among many other things. Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." He's famous (or maybe infamous) for his over-the-top multi-tracking of vocals. Is that what your trying to do, Dematrix? Have vocal effects like Baker did with the Cars' backing vocals on their first few records?

cheers guys,
The goal was WYD, just trying to hide any slight differences in the doube vocal attempts. you know when you hear one stop a little after the other, or one tracks tone goes slightly askew with the other making it really obvous there's a double vocal there?

Anyway, i think i fixed it, be the judge yerselfs, i posted the song for you guys to have a squiz. (song is, "WPFS")

aint no going back over it now, so i hope you enjoy it.

Maybe just a slight tidy up mix wise but im pretty happy with it.

Thanks again.

Tim N,
I kinda know what you mean, in regards to the multi vocal, you'll hear a small 5 to 10 second attempt at that in this song about 1/3 of the way thru as backing, i love that stuff cant wait to do more of it. sounds ok in this.
lemme know what you think, if you can pick where they are.
