Hi All! (Sorry for possible mistakes in English - it's not my native)

The song was made at home studio by me and my friend who is singer, recorded with M-Audio Nova mic through Behringer Mic-200 preamp plugged into M-Audio Fast Track USB interface. I mixed it on home stereo system.

The arrangement and voice are not quite usual and I even don't know what to reference with.. I want to make a Modern Sounding Folk Rock song.

I would be happy to hear critique and advices!

Thank you!

Here is the song

It's certainly modern-sounding, but I'm not sure what you mean by "Folk Rock." Please excuse my ignorance, but what language is the woman singing in? She has quite a voice. No need to apologize for your second-languge status--at least you have a second language.
My personal opinion is that this song would be categorized as more "New-Age" or "World" music than, say, "Folk Rock." These categories are arbitrary, though (very arbitrary!). It's "World" because it's not in English, and "New-Age" because of the synths, tempo, effects, and, again, the language.
Nicely recorded, though personally I'd pan things a bit more--the stereo field sounds narrow, to me. I have a tendency to place acoustic guitars far more off-center; synths and keyboards too. I like to imagine that I work in the "folk-rock" genre--we use acoustic guitars a lot, with electrics too, and keyboards are used for atmospherics, rather than lead instruments. The players in our group love "acoustic" style bands, where acoustic instruments are very forward. But this is simplifying things of course. If you want an idea of what I think is a very modern acoustic-rock style of music, check out Fleet Foxes, or for that matter Neil Young's "Comes A Time" record from 1978. Very nice work from you here, and I await your reply. A modest question: Where are you from? What's your music scene like?

Hi, Tim N!

Very nice that you posted some advices! I'll try to make something with stereo panning and post a new version soon.

I'm glad that you liked the song. This is a Korean Folk song. It's has philosophical meaning about life and death and that when our time comes we turn into stones, and those stones will stay for thousands years..

The singer's name is Janna Kim - she sings, plays guitar and banjo - take a look at

www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/home.asp?id=16836

and some music made by us

this is Janna's banjo music
www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?id=16836

and this is our rock group called "Cross-Section"
crosssection.narod.ru/mp3.htm

I live in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and my nationality is russian. The Uzbek music scene is all about uzbek folk but I like rock music best of all.
I've also made an arrangement and recording of an uzbek folk song "Qora Quz" ("Black Eyes") played by Janna on banjo.

And thank you for that you pointed the right style-name for our new song :)
