Im looking for the greatest sounding, quality headphones that can be used for varied output devices such as in a high end computer or direct from an FX pedal/amplifier/modeller/pod et-cetera in the price range of around $80-$150 or something like that...
I will be using these for both recording and personal use with different instruments. Dont wanna buy something and then have to upgrade in a hurry. But, doesnt NEED to be an invinsable cord or anything as it will mostly be for home use. Possibly some gaming. :)
Thank-you kindly.

Dec 23, 2010 01:10 pm I have and like the AT M50's too.
Dec 23, 2010 03:50 pm I have some Sennheiser HD500s that i bought about 9 years ago and they still are a dream. No bass can hide through them so they remind you to pay close attention to the low end in the mix so for me, sweet. Cost about £90 when I bought them, don't know if they even knock them out anymore.

Dec 23, 2010 08:38 pm Kewl, another question for recommendations...
Closed vs open circumaural? Im using in a quiet room. But iv heard mixed opinions on that; even in the quiet, closed circumaural still proves better in holding the bass and keeping the sound together etc. etc.
Suggestions?

Dec 23, 2010 08:41 pm Yeah Gary, iv had a keen eye on some Sennheiser HD555's. They have recieved alot of promising reviews and seem perfect for the price. The only problem is in the above reply; open or closed circumaural.

Jan 29, 2011 08:25 pm Ooh, sorry I missed this thread! I was home at the parents in FL with my wife for the hoidays.
I'd vote closed headphones. If you ever do any tracking with a mic close by and play the backing over the headphones, it helps keep the mic bleed to a minimum compared to open phones.
The Sennheisers are good. I have a cheapo pair as backups that work well with my ears, and were pretty good quality as cheap throw-around 20-buck cans. The Sennheiser 280pro's are always pretty popular as well.
I'd also vouch for the ATH M-50's mentioned above. My main headphones are the M-40fs variety, and I find them to be very balanced. The M-50's are probably a little better.
Some people really like the Sony MDR7506 cans. I don't particularly care for Sony myself, but that's my ears hehe.
That's my 2 cents anyway. :)

Jan 31, 2011 04:50 pm I have the AT M40fs as well and I think they are awesome. Very comfortable and accurate. I like the long cord as well. Plus they are field serviceable (cable, ear pads etc).

Feb 01, 2011 08:25 pm I, too, have the Sennheiser 280's, as well as the AT M50's. I've found the Sennheisers to be more comfortable. The M50 is a good sounding set, though I wouldn't mix on either one (a lesson learned). Both are great for tracking, though. I'm wearing the 280's in the picture.
