Absolute Beginner Starting Home Project

Hi,
I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to recording. I'm looking to get a small home setup to do demos, nothing fancy...mostly acoustic guitar tracks and vocals, maybe bass/keys, possibly drums. I am not expecting any flawless, but would like to have some recordings to catalog my writing and as a way to promote my live acoustic shows.

So far I have a Mackie 1402 mixer that I bought from eBay and have never used. I'm getting a MXL MXLV63M Condenser Studio Mic and a set of CAD CM217 instrument condenser mics. I have ProTools M-Audio with an M-Audio interface (very very basic model) that I also have never used.

As far as instruments I have a Takamine Jumbo Acoustic Electric and a Yamaha electric bass. That's about it.

I'm in the market for a new comp. Not sure where to go with this. I have a high quality set of Bose comp speakers and I'm also wondering if I need a legit set of studio monitors, or will these do for playback. I'm not dead set on using ProTools since I hear it can be confusing.

Any advice to get me going would be great appreciated. I understand this is probably a very frustrating endeavor and I'm willing to go ahead with it, I would just like to be pushed in the right direction before I waste $ on things I don't need.

hey mate,
Well i would get things up and running first before going ahed with monitor speakers. The bose ones sound like they would be ok for starters.

Computer wise, get something for the job. Like a gaming type computer, something with decent cpu and ram. I think it comes down alot to HD speed. 7200rpm is a start.

plenty of people seem to get by on i think its 5600rpm but you probably run into issues eventually.

So yeah just get things set up and get to know your way around the program you use and drop down some tunes and see where youre at then.
