Levels Question

I am working with a Presonus Firepod, Presonus HP4 headphone amp, and RoKIT 5 powered monitors. I currently am setup running out of the Firepod (Cue Mix Line Out) into the Inputs of the HP4, then running the RoKITS from the outputs of the HP4. I was trying to record a guitar player who was playing to drum tracks previously recorded and I was having trouble getting him mixed in so that he could still here the drums playing over himself. I have also had this problem with vocalists, where they can't here the rest of the music over their vocals and it's not because they are too loud it really is because I can't get the drums mix loud enough to be comfortable it's just too low because I record everything at -18db. I have a feeling I am running my equipment wrong, for instance I still have a Mains CR Output on my Firepod that I don't even use. Any suggestions??

You can send whatever you want to the headphone mix -- That would be its own mix.

man i know exactly what yer saying, i too have this problem especially with vox.

Just make sure you dont have alot of bass freq going on, that seems to blend everything to well in the phones, and makes it hard to hear.

But yeah i have a prick of a time some days trying to hear when doing vox.
someone told me different cans might help, not fully enclosed ones.
I will get around to trying these but im having a break from all music till i feel ready to go back to it. I be burnt out from it currently.

Figured it out!!! I am such an amateur still, but I learn something new each day with this stuff. I was able to simply turn up/down the track volume for the guitar and it doesn't effect the actual input signal level, so whether I have the guitar track turned down to -46db or up to 0 unity gain, the input level remain recording at -18db just where I want it. This allows me to get a reasonable level with the drum tracks by simply turning the Speakers up or down, and when that is a nice comfortable level, simply adjust the guitar level with Sonars mixer slider. I guess because it is in Record mode the mixer level doesn't effect the input signal just the output signal of what you hear.
