i know that the monitor out uses an instrument cable to go to the powered monitor, but i was wondering would and xlr cable be better, if so when i connect the male end to the powered mixer do i use a low z to hi z xlr to 1/4 inch or an xlr to 1/4 inch adapter(which i assume has no internal wiring like the transformer)

Nah. If your coming out 1/4" of the mixer, then just stay that way all the way through.

I mean, you can change it to XLR if you want to, but there is not an added benefit to it. An amp input is all high Z weather it's 1/4" or XLR.
