Hey all, the recording isn't horrible but this is a composition post above all.
I let the oh's run and did the old hang a mic over the guitar cab by its cord. Bass was DI and one vocal through an OM2.
I recorded our whole practice that day as we have three new songs and our singer wanted to be able to practice during the week. This one actually came out ok.
Anyway, the song is call "Stay" and is under my profile. It's funky, it's groovy with a small dose of the rock. Impressions, comments and criticisms are MORE than welcome :) So please, give me your opinions.

edit: technically it's not a new song, just a new recording.

Oct 15, 2010 05:19 pm Yep, just gave it a quick listen. (Really like that group btw)
I think you've got a nice sound going on. Open it up or space the sound out a little bit, toss in a smidgeon of verb, and I think it will sound really nice.
Like you said, not horrible, but I can hear a lot of potential there.
Keep em coming. I've got another new WIP myself, I'll try to get it uploaded this evening.

Oct 15, 2010 10:14 pm This sounds REALLY good for a "composition" post. Sure it's not perfect, but lots of people put in a lot of work and don't sound this good.
With that being said, I really, really, like this song! My favorite from the Fantastics that I've heard so far. Kind of has that surf reggae/rock feel to it... but soulful.
More later.
edit: ok, its later. I've been listening to this song for the past 15 minutes. This is a hit! My only issue is sometimes your singer's enunciation makes it hard to understand a couple words. This is the type of song that makes the ladies grab a man to dance, and everyone loves those kinds of songs... I'm just saying.
Oct 16, 2010 08:33 am This feels like the second to last song on my every favorite album :) its such a...time to almost wrap it up song. +1 to coolios "Type of song that makes the ladies grab a man to dance"
I love your singer(: the way her voice sounds...broken. Thats a great sound! Reminds me of the singer from automatic love letter. She's easily as good as just about any professional singer in rock.

Oct 16, 2010 06:09 pm Ok, I've been listening to this some more, and aside from the music, the lyrics are very well written also. I would like a copy of this in my collection at some point...

Oct 17, 2010 02:51 pm thanks for the feedback all. Glad to hear it is liked. Can u be specific on the vocal spots that are difficult to understand. I have heard this before and want to see if its something I can work with. I'm not sure if its possible but if so I will try.

Oct 18, 2010 02:03 am Oh, so you want me to listen to the song some more... ok, sure. Ha ha.
the word "room" in the first line is kinda hard to really make out
temptation taking me through the ??? (place?)
what's changed in you to make you so damn ??? (cold?)
in the chorus:
baby I need you, need you in my life ???? (I think there are two words there, but I can't make them out... maybe it is just oh oh oh, or something) (It's gone?).
Anyways, those were the places I had trouble with.
Actually I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I really like this song.

Oct 18, 2010 06:02 pm ha ha @ "approach with caution". If it helps, tell her some guy in SF has a long distance crush on her after listening to this song at least 30 times.

Oct 19, 2010 02:23 am Haha nice. She's easy on the eyes I think. Don't remember if I posted this. Little Photoshop I did for our MySpace/Facebook.

Oct 19, 2010 02:52 am Yep, saw her in a couple of the videos you've posted. Seeing her in the done up photo though....have to say....she's kinda built like my wife.
(my wife got pulled on stage by the silly sailors at one of the local renn faires. They had a competition to see who could talk like a pirate the best. They gave nick names to the players. Hers was "treasure chesty" :P yeah, I'm not letting her live that one down ever.)
