Hey :)
Im Chris, from Melb, workin on tracks for a liddle album early next year. Got bare essentials, gettin there :P
Behringer MS40's (i know, but they were cheap)
Eurorack - 8 track, just for line-in some eq, clearer signal.
Audiophile 1246 - oldie but a goodie, think its time to upgrade to digi though,
Using Cubase 3 sx (ready to upgrade again, sugestions would rock)
Guitar rig 4, not too shabby :P
Beatcraft for drums, any drum sequencing sampling advice would be great, really need some help there.
Computer is fast enough, just need more RAM.

put up a track on the site, gonna put up another 2morrow :)

Could someone spare some well formed constructive critisisms? hehe :)

Listen to a few tracks on here, was real impressed with the quality of stuff round here, good work guys :0 look forward to yarnin.

Heya Wildeyez. Welcome to the HRC.

Bearing in mind, my room is suboptimal, so you'll have to take my feedback with a grain of salt. And other folks will chime in as well. We're all kinda like a big clan helping each other out around here. Also, my typing is kinda bleh since i've got a bandage oon my finger.

First off, I do like the style of music, and I think once any problem areas are cleared away, it'll sound really good.

Anyway, here's what I'm hearing:

Bass/sub-bass is definitely present and sounds pretty good to me. Can't tell if there might be any bass ringing or not but it doesn't sound muddy or anything. However, I feel like the track as a whole sounds a bit squashed...maybe easing off some of the compression could help? The distorted guitars sound kinda thin EQ-wise, and as a whole feels kinda harsh/fatiguing to listen to for extended periods. Maybe too much of the midrange sucked out? Snare is a little buried sounding, kick could be a tad tighter/more punchy, and the hats sound kinda thin to me. Drums in general could be a bit more forward in the mix.

These are just my thoughts on it, and I think other folks' opinions will help give a well rounded view, and more ideas on any problem areas to look at. Hope that helps!

I love the guitar tone! Maybe a bit more tweaking, but nice stuff! what amps from GR4 are you using? I just purchased Komplete 6, which includes that. So i'm curious ;] The bass sounds good too. Right about where it belongs. The drums seem to be your major issue. Could be that the samples are just...suboptimal. But i'm sure theres something you could do with compression and EQ to bring them to life a bit more. And definitely push them forward a bit more in the mix. I'm not really good enough to give you good advice on mixing them, but i sure can complain :P The kick is too... "thud" sounding, and not enough "thump" and "click" there. Also muddy? The hats are too...crisp and thin sounding? The snare isn't as bad, just needs a little tweaking and brought way up volume wise.

Really nice sounding song :) catchy, simple. Easy to "learn" for the listener. Yet detailed, lush, and well layered.

sounds pretty clean. For a different approach, if you lowered the guitar in volume some, the drums would come though a bit better. As is stands to me, I think the low end could come up compared to the guitar, (or take guitar down a bit). It's hard to hear the kick at all for me, but it seems pretty dry. I would experiment with some reverb on it (but this could end up sucking too...). Guitars do sound good, but seem to be overpowering the rest of the mix. I also had some fatigue after a couple minutes of listening. It's a really good start though!

Sounds pretty good too me on my phones. The kick could use a bit of work, possibly some EQ on the bass to make some room for it. I like the tone you have on the guitar, and the snare sound fine, maybe add a very lite touch of reverb on it. I'd really like to hear the song with the vocals on it.

Man, thanks guys :) Quick response too! lovin the words you guys got, like friggin crackers to a starving man hah! :)

J-bot, defiantly here what yoru saying, teh guitars have beena little bit of a nightmare, between what the computer tells me adn the speakers, i just cant seem to get a decent rounded mix :P will defiantly work on ome mid range, usually to scared to touch it hah, but have seen some nifty tricks with mids and snares that really seem to work, attack the mids? great advice :)

Fragile! werd! More twekaing soudns good, the ears get tired quick. GR4 has some real kick butt sounds, the one Im using is the Birtish hammer sounds, then theres the AC/DC mods, seem to have a nice edgy sharp attack to em :)
I have no idea what im doing with compression, recor the tracks flat eq, in the mix I add a little thru cubase, then chuck down gr4, then sometimes ad a sonic max plug in that gives a little punch, the mix always sounds flat, use Izotope for like.. final mix mastering, this is where i seem to lose a lot, it makes it brigther, but sucks the guts out of it at the same time :P
ANY advice for drums would be great, using Beatcraft, but sooo wanna learn a better program. Thank you brother :)

coolo, werd on the fatigue dude, i feel it too lol, it was just one riff when i pressed record, turned into 3 lol, use the demos to map out structure and write lyrics, kinda like a creative regurgitation onto the track, then go back latter and pick out the good bits lol :P Starting to work on reverb with the snare and stuff, tyring to go for dry.. like seventies dry, but punch. friggin hard :P

Thanks a heap guys, too kind :)
