Hi, I am new to setting up a home studio. I have my pc hooked up via 1/4'' into track 1 on the mixer.. I can hear it just fine, but I am not sure how to get the sound to come out of the two monitors. It works fine when using a little amp, but no sound comes out of the monitors. I have the monitors hooked up on the mixer in the main output left and right.. it is a behringer eurorack.. we've tried everything but cannot get sound to come out of monitors.. i even plugged in my crate bx-100 bass amp and it came out of there.. could you please help me so I can get the monitors working? I have as follows:

1) PC with Realtek hd audio.. I have the regular cable with the 1/4'' adapter..

2) Behringer Eurorack mx 1804x

3) Two 12'' Peavey Monitors

4) Zoom HD8 Recorder

5) Korg PA50 Keyboard

.. I would like to hook them all up through the mixer, and have the audio come out of the monitors.. that is all im trying to do.. I know how to record using the usb zoom recorder, but the whole point is im trying to hook it up through the mixer, and have the sound from the mixer come out of the monitors.. Ive been playing with it all day, so if you can please help me get it set up right that would be greatly appreciated! Also, I have most cables.. I have some adapters that take the green plug for pc speakers to 1/4'' jacks and to stereo jacks.. I have 3 pin midi cables, i have some 5 pin midi cables, I have quite a few 1/4'' cables.. I have a few red/white to red/white cables also

What exactly do you use the computer for?

If i understand you correctly you have a hardware recorder and hardware mixer.........which would make the computer kind of useless.

Basically what does the computer play that you need to plug it "in" to the mixer. Most scenerio's have the computer accepting inputs, not being used as an output itself.

So i must be misunderstanding you. Please add details.

Well my recorder is usb, so i just transfer the recorded tracks for editing back to the pc and use software to edit the tracks. But when I play it back, I want it to come out of the monitors through the mixer. My pc speakers are really weak, and I don't have money to buy new pc speakers right now. Plus, when using the recorder and the keyboard, I can never get any sound to come out of the monitors from the mixer, I can only get sound to come out of the Bass amp and my little amp.. Or only one monitor at a time for some reason.. I basically don't want the sound coming out of the bass amp, I want the sound coming out of the two monitors

so the computer is used for editing.. I have various programs, cubase, sonar, sony acid pro, etc. etc. i use to edit tracks from the recorder.. I basically need to know how to hook the monitors up to the mixer properly so the mixer sends the sound out through two monitors, and not the bass amp.. the computer hooks up to the mixer fine..

I just want everything connected through the mixer.. as far as the computer, i want the audio only to output from the pc so i can hear it on the monitors.. does that make sense? i want to use the monitors for sound from the pc instead of these cheap pc speakers i have

It can also depend on if the speakers are self powered or not. You don't specify. Actually, you don't specify a lot in your post. There are a lot of vague things that seem known to you, but trying to see your setup through a forum post is quite difficult.

But, I digress.

I'm gonna say, plug your PC OUTPUTS over to your last INPUT pair on your mixer. Your PC output is stereo, so get a 1/8" stereo -> (2) TS plugs.

Now, if your monitors are not self powered, then you'll need some sort of AMP to drive them with power. What's coming out of your mixer (MAINS OUT) is LINE level signal, not enough to drive passive speakers. You'll need some sort of amplifier, like a bookshelf stereo that has AUX inputs, or a Receiver, like old Fisher / Pioneer / Realistic. These often are floating around unused, but work great for our purpose. Send your LINE level signal from the mixer MAIN outs, to a LINE input on the receiver / stereo. * DONT * plug into the phono input. Use tape input, or AUX input. Then connect your speakers to the speaker connections on the stereo / receiver, and set the input selector to your correct input.

Try to be mindful of the impedance of the speakers (8 ohm, 4 ohm, 16 ohm, etc) to match them up to the amp output if possible

Also, set your EQ section to flat, or middle, so you don't color your sound coming from your PC.

If there's some other reason why this isn't working, then post with more details, and we'll try and get it sorted.

As far as using the recorder thing, I'm not sure how you're trying to use it for recording, etc. If you're using that to track, then xfering tracks to the PC, then you're probably sorted already. If you're trying to record on PC, then the realtek is probably too slow and high in latency to work, giving you much frustration.
