Newbie question about midi in cubsae

Hi all, got myself a synth to use in conjunction with cubase, midi for the synth works fine but, when I try to use it for vst instruments I cannot hear any audio for the vst instruments. The midi note is showing on the channel indicator but no sound. I have followed all the instructions in the manual but have come up blank. Can anyone help as I know this should be easy enough to sort out, thanks in advance .M

I think jues will be the man with the answers for you. He should be along sometime soon and has extensive knowledge of Cubase and MIDI.

Hey, am I late :)

Rather than try to pick apart your problem from that description, I will give you a walk thru - if you are still having trouble after these steps let me know...

1. fire up cubase
2. hit F11 to bring up the VSTi pannel - choose the one you want to work with :)
3. add a MIDI track to your arrangment window (Right click and choose "Add MIDI Track"
4. the new track will appear in the arrange window - make this track "taller" (drag it out vertically) so you can see all the controls for it.
5. in the "Ouput:" box, make sure your chosen softsynth is selcted from the list.
6. in the "Input:" box, make sure the correct MIDI interface is selected (or set it to "all" if you're not too fussed)

That's it, you should now get sound from your softsynth - if you are still not, open up the MIDI Key Editor and "play" the on-screen keyboard - this should generate sound.

If you are STILL not getting audio, then press F2 to bring up the Mixer, make sure that the softsynth is not muted or another track is soloed.

Still stuck - let me know

Cheers for the help Jues, but I'm still experiencing the same trouble as before. I forgot to mention that if I hit record whilst sriking the keys when I stop recording and hit playback that I can then here the notes I've played. Does this give you any clues to where I'm going wrong??? Thanks again M.
