How to master with software?

What respectable software is capable of mastering music to "today's standards," meaning all aloud and proud?

I don't want to crush the signal, but I want to bring it up the 'common' level, so to speak, just to fit in. Is there a way about this?

I record with Sonar 7 Pro and I have Steinberg Wavelab 5 and Waves 5.

Am I in need of an upgrade, or can I fair from here?

A monkey with a decent limiter can make a mix "loud" -- But let's not confuse that with mastering (although playback volume is a small, nearly insignificant part of the mastering process)...

If you're looking for ridiculous levels, you might notice that the typical mastering chain is an analog chain running at I/O voltages that far surpass the extremely limited (no pun intended) available headroom in digital. Then of course, what it takes to get that voltage under control at the AD is another story altogether.

Okay - Something constructive... Look for G-Clip. It's a decent, freeware limiter with oversampling. Still working within the limitations of digital, but it's not bad.

Sound wise any program taht allows u to run the correct VSTs at the correct values will suffice, but the more technical aspect of mastering like authoring the CD and things u will need a good program. Im pretty sure Wavelab is that program though so u should be covered.

U can master on anything (soundwise) if u know how to work the tools.
