Help me determine the Genre of this song "Time Will Tell"

I'm having a time with the Genre of this song. It about taking control of your life and has a Jekyll & Hyde Theme.

Yeah, that's a hard one to place for me as well with it being acapella.

When it first starts, it almost reminds me of those old field hollers, but closer to blues. But once it picks up, it shifts totally with the hard syncopated rhythms. I'd say later than gospel, and definitely somewhere in the jazz genre, maybe even something closer to blues.

I feel like I've heard this style somewhere before, but I just can't place it or remember it hehe. Maybe one of the other guys has a better sense, or maybe it will hit me later hehe.

I suppose if I were in a store looking for that song and had to choose a section to search in I would look under world music and/or folk. Both having broad definition.

good luck with that one.

Sounds like the singer is of African descent to me. Not sure what their style of mainstream music is called there but thats what it sounds like to me.

maybe a touch of Reggge.
