UA-4FX through guitar rig. (Only one input available)

Hi guys, I'm new to these forums....

before I continue I'll just get you to have a look at these threads:

------------------------------

To sum things up I have bought the UA-4FX unit and I have it set up but I am now having trouble with a different aspect of guitar rig.

Using the UA4FX, Guitar rig only shows two inputs, which are "IN" and "IN(R)".

Strangely enough, it is putting both my synthesizer and my guitar through the one input. All i want to put through it is the guitar. Is there any solutions to this?

I really really hope there is because I don't want to have bought this unit for it to be useless.

Thank you all for your time.

P.S.

And another little problem that I have come across in the last 5 minutes...

When I play the guitar through guitar rig it plays the dry sound on top of the post-sound in Guitar Rig. Is there a way this can be fixed too?

I never had to worry about it with my old setup because:

1. I was able to mute that particular line-in through the Audigy volume controls.

2. The volume of the dry signal was nowhere near as high as the guitar rig volume.

Hey Meneedit, welcome to the HRC. Hopefully we can get you set up and flying right.

This sounds like your track is being told to listen as a stereo track, which will listen on 'IN' and 'IN(R)'. I'm going to reference them as Input 1 and Input 2, which is really what they are. They CAN be used as stereo, but inherently, it's Input 1 & 2.

So, if you create a stereo track, then it's going to listen to IN1 and IN2 by default. This isn't what you want, as you only have a MONO source to record (your guitar). So, in your software, make a MONO track to receive your input, and tell it to only listen on whichever input your guitar is plugged into. Being as how there's only 2, it should be fairly easy to tell.

MONO track is what you want now, and later when you're mixing and playing back your tracks, the software will create your stereo field for you, out of the MONO tracks. This is done automatically, so don't create STEREO tracks unless you KNOW the source is stereo (like a keyboard with stereo chorus, or ping-pong delay, etc).

Hopefully that clears up that problem.

This probably comes from what type of monitoring AA is making, in conjunction with the monitoring coming from the UA. If you're UA has monitoring turned on, then this is 0 latency, but it's going to be clean signal in your case. Now, add to this, that GR is receiving your signal, processing it, and then sending the processed signal back out the outputs, so you're hearing the 2 signals at the same time. I would turn off the direct monitoring on the UA, so you only hear the processed signal coming back from the PC and GR.

Hopefully that clears up issue #2.

Looking at some pix, it may be the rec source thing, but I'm not sure. there's no button that says on/off direct monitoring, so you may have to fish around and look in the manual / online to see how to turn that off. Otherwise, maybe turning down the monitor for the direct input. But alas, I'd have to look to see which does that as well.

hth.
